Pros: Runs well on a system with: i7-3770K ASUS P8Z77-V LK Kingston HyperX Beast 16GB (2 x 8GB) 2 x Intel 335 SSD ASUS GTX650TIB 2 x WD Green 2TB HDD 2 x Seagate "NAS" 2TB HDD 2 x BD-R 2 x DVD-R USB 3.0 with stuff charging and other smaller drains I haven't tried to max out the power draw on everything, and I don't subject this system to intense loads, but I do some relatively hardcore multitasking and I crank up the graphics on games. Once in a while, I have some scientific computing and/or code compiling in the background while playing a game. Once, I did that while ripping 4 DVDs at once. That's about as maxed out as the load can get and I didn't notice any issues with the system. Now, there are plenty of rigs out there that can beat the pants off mine. So I'm sure you could kill this PS if you wanted to -- but for my rig, it's plenty and it delivers within spec consistently.
Cons: Lots of cables I don't need -- that's the usual complaint with power supplies. I never have convinced myself I need a modular supply, because I always forget until it's time to build the system and then I remember that half of this mess has to be bundled up and tucked out of the way because I don't need 10 molex connectors and 4 motherboard connectors and .... it's not so bad on this one, but I remember back when everything was molex so a big PS like this one would have 12-16 molex connectors. Yikes. This has mostly things I need, but still quite a few I don't. So I had to tie them all together and try to keep them from blocking airflow. Other issues? Right angles would be nice, at least, for some of these SATA power plugs (maybe do half straight, half right?). Also the spacing between the SATA plugs (and the two 6/8 pin units) is a bit unrealistic. They err on the side of caution, but that means too much of a big bulky cable crammed up between all my drives. I have HDD / SSD six in a row -- that's ALOT of excess cable I wish I didn't have to deal with, bulging out because it's all in series, connected to one drive after the other. But that's all a matter of selection. I picked a good economy model that seemed reliable, and it has been. I could have paid more for modular, with better cable control and better connectors. I chose this one instead. But you should know that too -- in case this matters more to you than it does to me. It's not worth -1 egg to me, but it might be -2 to you if you get mad about right-angle plugs.
Overall Review: This is the first PS I've ever had that hasn't had a selector for 120V vs. 220V. I don't care, I'm never going to use a 220V plug for any reason. This thing weighs in somewhere between really fat housecat and boat anchor, so it's not leaving my house unless I move or get robbed. But whatever happened to that little red switch? I miss it. I used to love reading about people overseas who fried their PCs by flipping that switch and people here in the US who were too dumb to just flip it back to get their system running again.
