Question 1

There are many complaints about this PSU breaking and ruining other hardware in peoples' PC. Is this a common thing or is that just a rare occurrence? Also, would this be good for a gaming PC? My PC is currently on 350 Watts and I need to buy a new PSU because mine is extremely noisy.

I have used Rosewill power supplies for many years and never had any issues. I have tried other ones, but continue to come back  to Rosewill. This is is completely silent and has enough power. The only thing missing is dual rail.

Does the bottom fan push or pull air?

It pulls air in and pushes out the back. I installed mine and has worked flawlessly and ZERO noise. More than enough power to push all the devices built into my rig. Hope this helps

They are both good but I highly recommend this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153167. I have the AMD FX-8350, EVGA GTX 660Ti and both are highly overclocked but if you are on a tight budget and not overclocking then both of these 500watt psu's are fine. Hope this helped!

I recently bought a Dell 960 Optiplex Small Frame Factor computer. It came with a 235W Power Supply. My question is: Will the Rosewill Stallion Series RD500-2DB 500W ATX12V PS be a good upgrade and, will it fit in the Dell case?

It is a standard size Power Supply.  If you Dell has a standard size Power Supply it should fit, and yes, going from 235W Power Supply to a 500W Power Supply is definitely a good upgrade.  Check with Dell on the physical size of the Power Supply in the 960.

Question 7

I've noticed a lot of reviews mentioning the cords being too short. Is there any way I could check if I'll have a similar problem? Would it depend on tower size or top/bottom PSU mounting?

if you are buying the combo deal the cords will more the likely be to short to connect the optical drive and hard drive of only sata line. however you can buy a 2.99 star tech 4pin molex to sata adapter and it will solve all problems. I went with the 4pin to 2 sata connector y splitter.

Question 8

Is it possible to disable the LEDs? I am planning to get a case with Yellow LEDs and this will look really horrible in there, but I love this PSU and I don't want to abandon it.

I am going to guess you probably can open the power supply to disconnect or cut the LED wire to disable it but I never try open it to verify if the LED is solder on or attached to a wire that can be disconnected.

Is it not, semi, or fully modular?

It is not at all modular. I'm glad you asked about this unit. Bought it a few years ago to replace a failed power supply in my HTPC. Lasted about 10 months. A second rate power supply you would expect for the money. Personally, I would have rather had modular plugs than the blue LED fans that are exceedingly cheap, performing poorly yet making an incredible amount of noise for their size. This is the exact same power supply you can buy for $9.95 without the black paint and blue lights. I am sure it would be fine for a modest PC but if you start adding high powered video cards this thing is just not the right one for the job. The purchase of this power supply has confirmed and reinforced my belief that Rosewill is a second rate brand. Sure the stuff works, just barely, for a little while then dies.  This has been consistent over nearly 20 years. At least now I have a brand name to associate with, mediocre, second rate, below average quality and a short life. Even generic straight from China components stand up better than this entire brand. At least those guys are trying to build business with reliable stuff. Just my simple thoughts.

Question 10

I just built a computer with this PSU. Everything is all plugged inand when I flick on the switch on the power supply, I hear this high pitched whining sound coming from PS and cannot turn on computer with the power button. Is this a faulty power supply?

Sounds like a bad power supply. You shouldn't hear any noise coming from the power supply, other than a little fan noise, and that would be very light.
