Remove desktop hard drive and use this adapter to slave it to another computer.  If the hard drive functions properly,  you may then save the files to a flash drive or external hard drive.

The power supply provides 12 VDC at 2 A (2000 mA) and also 5 VDC also at 2 A. Hope this is helpful.

I have a western digital IDE Hard Drive WD800 80.0 GB MDL :WD800JB-00FSA0   I need to purchase an External Hard Drive Enclosure to transfer files from this drive to my New Computers SATA Hard Drives. Will the StarTech UNI2510U2V 2.5" Tool-less USB 2.0 to IDE SATA External Hard Drive Enclosure  work for me ???

For the drive I had, it would not work.  There was not enough room for the connection to seed in. I believe it was the power.  I ended up buying a Sabrent Black Serial ATA (SATA) & SATA II to eSata or USB 2.0 3.5" Aluminum External Hard Drive Enclosure MPN  EC-ESU4K and a  Cables To Go SATA Converter Board MPN:  10153, and a ULTRA SATA TO IDE / IDE TO SATA ADAPTER MPN:  U12-41884  I think I did not use the cables or board.  I am glad I have the board, if I run into the same problem I have a solution.   It's hard to find them now.

Will this enclosure accept a previously formatted MBR 2TB hard drive?

Yes.  That is what I use it for.  I do computer repair and when someone has me work on their computer I pull their primary drive out and create an image of it.  The drive is completely readable and all files are accessible.

Have several power supplies - do I use one with positive or negative ground?

Power supplies always have a connection to ground.  The voltages that are present as outputs from the supply can be both negative and positive with respect to ground.  If this is to be used with automobile devices, you should use a connector that has a -12v output when measure to ground.
