Would this theater is a box system need a receiver purchased separately to function?

Joce K, if I understand your question correctly, you are asking if there is any need for an additional component (receiver) for the HTS to function. The answer is no, the system is complete and self contained. My setup is a 46 inch Samsung LCD TV, my cable provider's set top box, and the Samsung HTS. I can watch DVDs, watch TV, access the internet for streaming from Netflix, Amazon, Vudu, etc, listen to FM radio, or even send audio from my smartphone to the HTS using bluetooth (haven't actually done this but the setting is there) and here all the sound through the HTS. You don't need anything else for the system to function.

Can the rear speakers be used either hardwired or wireless? I had wire run back to where base unit will go and dont have power in the area where speakers will sit

The rear speakers are wired to a wireless device that sits away from the speakers.  So, technically, they are wired and plug int the device.  I guess you could sit the unit anywhere you want to and run the wires to it from that location to wherever your wireless unit can be plugged in or use a power strip.  But, there is no place to directly plug them into the receiver that I can find.  Hope that helps.

What kind of amplifier does this have? The speakers are rated at 1000 watts, but what is the amp rated?

According to the specs on the Samsung website, the total system power is 1000 amps. The manual shows the following:

Amplifier-
Front speaker output: 165W x 2
Center speaker output: 170W
Surround speaker output: 165W x2
Subwoofer output: 170W

I assume the amplifier and speakers would have relatively matched specs since this is designed to be a contained system. On a personal note this HTS is much, much louder than the Panasonic SC-BT730 it replaced which also had an amplifier rated at 1000 amps but rated speaker output was much less.

What is the difference between the /ZA model vs the regular F6500W?

Nothing.   They are exactly the same from what I can tell.  Samsung is a Korean company and ZA is just the country code so they ship them to the right countries.   Some distributors will keep the country code when listing the model number while others will drop it since it doesn't mean much to the buyer.   I bought the ZA one and I live in USA (everything English and works great like you'de expect).

Question 6

Are the rear speakers connected to each other, or are they both independently wireless?  If I have a walkway passing between the rear speakers, will I still have to account for the wire?

They connect to a wireless device by speaker wiring.  The wireless device can be plugged into any location near where the speakers are as they both connect into the device.  The speakers themselves are not technically wireless, they connect to basically a wireless receiver.
