Pros: Good copies, networked easily, ID card feature useful.
Cons: Software bloated. Multiple document feeder feeble, jams. United died 2 mos. after warranty. Rated at 50K duty cycle, but we only used around 10K/month, so failure frustrating. Samsung customer support not only unhelpful, but arrogant.
Overall Review: The only reason I'm buying a replacement is because I already have 3 hi capacity toner cartridges in stock and it is cheaper to buy another unit on sale than pay restocking/shipping charges return. Hopefully it will work more than 14 mos.
Pros: Laser multifunction, Duplex printing (not scanning, though, which would be much more useful!), Networked, Quiet when not printing, good print quality (laser).
Cons: Atrocious Mac software from Samsung. Don't even try to install it! Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) supports the printer and scanner without the Samsung junk. However, even once I got the Samsung junk cleaned up, the scanner barely works, and often hangs, requiring me to "kill -9" the TWAIN driver in the terminal or reboot to scan again.
Overall Review: I have a Samsung networked laser printer that worked fine, without any vendor drivers, with my Macs, so I thought this MFP was worth a try. The printer works fine, but the scanner is a total waste of time. The duplex printing is nice, but the ability to scan/copy two-sided originals would be much more useful. I assumed the software would provide a way to merge documents to get a duplexed scan, but it doesn't. I would strongly recommend that Mac users look elsewhere.
Pros: Worked well untill it stopped working after only 2 months of very light duty.
Cons: Linux driver is garbage. You can't use the scanner with Linux and the convuluted Ubuntu community work around didn't work 'round at all.
Overall Review: I'm a Samsung fan but if the malfunction had happened within Newegg's 30 day return policy I'd have asked for my money back. After about an hour of repeditive (and redundant) attempts to reslove the issue with Samsung support they did send me a pre-paid lable to ship it for repair. I'm expecting th get a repair or replacement free of charge but I don't feel good about owning this printer in either case. I gave it a 3-egg review only becuse featurewise, i like the item, and Samsung isn't holding me to thier warretny requrement that I pay for the "transportation" costs of returning the unit for repair.
Pros: This is an excellent combo unit - I really can't fault the features of the hardware. Quiet and fast in operation, both scanning with the ADF and duplex printing are fast and accurate
Cons: The software shipped with the scanner is poorly designed. The biggest problem is for those who want to scan bulk documents. I bought this for archiving, and it fails miserably, because when scanning to PDF format, you cannot disable OCR. Scanning a 50 page document is fast - but the OCR pass takes up to 15 minutes to complete. Samsung tech support is universally unhelpful. They do not understand the scanning software or the installation setup. I had a lot of problems installing their software until I figured out (they didn't know) that it is incompatible with Photoshop. If you are a graphics person, avoid this unit! They also have no idea how to disable the OCR pass on scanning - a dreadful design defect. There are many other problems with the mis-named "Smarthru" software; it should be called "DumbThru".
Overall Review: I'm planning to buy a different scanning software package - I really like the unit, and it is particularly stupid of Samsung to couple this great hardware with awful software. They also need to fire the support techs I spoke to - one of whom wasn't just un-knowledgeable about the product he is supposed to be supporting, but downright rude as well.
Pros: The SCX-4826 is an outstanding monochrome laser printer - it is fast, super clean output, scans to PC or usb drive, faxes, and has a small footprint. This printer is taller, but smaller footprint than the epson ink-jet it replaced. Further, it provides much more dependable print quality than the epson.
Cons: The Samsung software is not quite as user friendly as the Epson's was, but it is useful. I did get a paper jam the first day - multiple sheets fed; however, clearing the jam was very easy and the software shows an animation of how to clear each type of jam.
Overall Review: The automatic document feeder is one of those features that are must have once you use them. Copying and scanning multiple page documents is a breeze with this printer. Also, the printer can print double-sided to save paper.
Pros: Has done everything I ask , someone said it would'nt scan without USB , but it will scan to print and I have had no problems at all.
Cons: Can't adjust fax speed
Overall Review: Not much of a con but couldn't think of anything , software takes some relearn if your comming from HP
Pros: Our company has five of these machines and I have one at home for nearly two years and haven't a single glitch or failure. They have been workhorses. Got them all at $199. All of them are setup on our network and no drops or issues like others have stated. Fax has worked perfectly as well.
Cons: Wish the initial start up time was quicker.
Pros: Fast. Affordable. Network Printing. Network Scanning. Plays very nicely with Mac OS X on the office network. I downloaded the drivers from samsung's website and installed them in a snap. We've got this machine networked, and is currently shared by two Macbooks. Two windows machines will likely be set up to use it as well. Prints crisp, clean, and fast, even with toner saving turned on. Network scanning is AWESOME! With it configured, I take a document to the scanner, select "Scan to PC", click OK a few times to verify settings (PDF, black/white, 300 dpi, letter), press "Start" and when I go back to my computer, Preview has the PDF open on my desktop. It's almost magical, really. Scanning direct to a USB thumb drive is awesome, too!
Cons: Had one glitch with it not wanting to Scan to my computer this morning. I restarted the printer, restarted my computer, and then it worked. Probably just a fluke.
Overall Review: This is the second Samsung laser printer we've owned. So far, it works as advertised, and if it holds up like the old one, well, we'll have it for YEARS. Highly recommended, would buy another.
