I want to be able to preload this mp3 player with some of my little granddaughter's favorites songs so it is usable the minute she unwraps it. Question: Can I (a) either load songs into it from a thumb drive and then let her add more later through her mom's computer or the thumb drive or (b) load songs directly from my computer to the player then later have her be able to load songs from her mother's computer?

Accepted Answer

You cannot connect a thumb drive directly to this gadget. You have to connect it via its special USB cable to a computer.  Once connected to a computer you can easily update the music contents by using the "Sync" feature in Windows Media Player to transfer the desired songs to the device.

One tip: Since these devices do not always last a long time (internal non-replaceable battery dies, or device itself stops functioning), you might want to purchase a micro-SD card to put into the device and load your songs only into the micro-SD card (the Sync feature in Media Player allows you to do this).  This way you get three benefits: (a) you can buy the device with the smallest amount of internal memory (i.e. the cheapest version of the SANSA device) and still use a large capacity micro-SD card with it, (b) you can have different song collections on different micro-SD cards that you can plug into the device as your mood desires, and (c) should the device fail, you will still have your songs on the micro-SD card that you can put into a replacement SANSA or other device.
