No, it only operates on batteries. There is no AC/DC transformer included, and no place on the radio to plug one in. The instructions make no mention of using a transformer.

in a review it was mentioned that the antenna is the headphones included.  will it work with different headphones?

Yes. I've used several including earbuds and headphones. It even works with mobile phone earbuds which I sometimes use because of the intelligibility tonal enhancement. The included earbuds don't seem to have any additional circuitry - there's no additional contact on the 3mm plug. By the way, the radio works fine - big sound even without the bass-boost if you have a good set of headphones - that also doesn't unnaturally boost bass.
