Q: Can this card work with up to 5 HDD or up to 20 HDD at once? The description says "with Port Multiplier, a single eSATA cable can connect up to 5 drives with Port Multiplier aware unit" but it's not clear if this works with 5 drives on each of the 4 ports simultaneously.

Yes it will work with 5 drives on each of the ports simultaneously, however drives have to share the connection's bandwidth. I use one of these controllers on a Rosewill RSV-S8 external hot swap array, worked great and was twice as fast as the controller it came with.
