Sapphire brings the power of graphics ‘supercomputing’ to enthusiasts with their TOXIC Radeon HD 4870 card. Built on Sapphire's original Vapor Chamber Technology, this card will bring the benefits of Vapor-X cooling - quieter and more efficient cooling - to a wider range of users.
The Sapphire TOXIC Radeon HD 4870 card has 1GB of high-performance GDDR5 memory, clocked at 1000MHz (4.0Gbps effective) and the GPU core is clocked at 780MHz. Supporting AMD CrossFireX technology, two high-speed connectors on each card allow two or more cards to be used together for enhanced performance when installed in a CrossFireX compatible motherboard.
The Radeon HD 4870 incorporates the latest ATI Avivo HD Technology for enhanced Video display, and features a second generation built-in UVD (Unified Video decoder) for the hardware accelerated decoding of Blu-ray and HD DVD content for VC-1, H.264 and MPEG-2 codecs, considerably reducing CPU load. The card’s HDMI connector supports multi-channel audio formats (up to 7.1) and combines audio and video output on a single cable for direct connection to an HDMI ready display. Support for DirectX10.1 ensures the optimal performance and application compatibility with all DirectX10.1 applications and enables stunning 3D graphics and shading effects in the latest DirectX10.1 games.
TeraScale Graphics EngineThe new TeraScale engine combines over one teraFLOPs of graphics horse power, 800 stream processors and next generation GDDR5 memory, so you can enjoy the high resolutions and seamless frame rates previously only available with dual-card systems.

Pros: So far I am very impressed with the speed of this card. I upgraded my HD 4870 512MB that I put in my son's computer, and I can certainly tell the extra memory helps this thing with AA at the 1920X1200 I play at. This overclocked version of the HD 4870 is neck and neck vs. the OC GTX 260 core 216s. The cooling on this Sapphire Toxic is quite good also as I've not seen the GPU hit 60C yet under load with fan at 50% which is bearable to the ears.
Cons: The price is a little steeper than the regular stock 1GB HD 4870. But considering you get an overclocked card as well as a custom, better than reference cooling heatsink, this might not be so bad afterall. You get what you pay for I guess.
Overall Review: You really can't go wrong with either a 1GB HD4870 or a GTX 260 Core 216 in this price range. I was going to get a GTX 260 but after my great experience with the HD 4870 512MB over the past 6 months I decided to stay with ATI.
