snap crackle pop 12/23/2014 3:06:47 PM

Pros: It was the lowest price 5870 at the time

Cons: low quality non-reference cooler, loud fan

low quality VRMs

Overall Review: Just over 4 years old, whole PC froze up. Began troubleshooting procedures, card went zap *sparks* and was dead just like that.

Never worked properly 5/12/2014 9:16:38 PM

Pros: Got it for a good price that's about it

Cons: Just all kinds of issues with this card. Had severe stuttering/performance and driver issues. This thing was so royally messed up.... Wish my tech knowledge is then what it is now so I could have returned or RMAed it.

Stuttering problems everywhere. In games, on the desktop in video. Excessive screen tearing. Poor performance. You know something is messed up when animations in GTA IV make the characters move like they're having seizures.

This card is a nightmare and I will never buy another Sapphire product again unless it is highly recommended. Will be going nvidia with my next GPU for once after 2 failed AMD cards in a row (Xfx 512mb HD 4870).

Pros: Great card while it last. Ran SC2 on max settings without flinching.

Cons: Failed too early. Purchased this card on Nov 24, 2010. It is now Oct 02, 2013. The card lasted almost 3 years with no problems at all. And today is the first day I start experiencing problems similar to other reviewers.
"video driver stopped responding" Had a few BSOD/WSOD every time I load a youtube video or start my games. But it still runs fine when web browsing or anything non video related.

Overall Review: Bought this card for $280 on black friday. Still pretty expensive for a video card to last barely 3 years. Would of felt better if it lasted at least 5.

Will Not Buy Again 6/13/2013 4:54:22 AM

Pros: Card was easy to install and drivers are constantly being modified (may be a con, but it is what it is) Displays good graphics and speed was fine for Falcon BMS for which it was intended.

Cons: I worked with this card's failings through out it's life span always crashing, always "video driver stopped responding" - never a reliable card. It was my fault fopr not RMA ing the card while under warranty for these faults as I thought it was a driver issue that AMD would fix - but no, it was a hardware issue after I finally reported to Sapphire who promptly informed me of such and that it was out of warranty by then.

Overall Review: The moral of this story is don't let manufactures delay the RMA process with "driver issues." If it's broke - send it back while under warranty. Also, when researching for a new display adapter - go for the one with the longest warranty period. Hopefully we can encourage them to stand behind their disposable products longer.

Sapphire 5870 12/18/2011 6:01:27 PM

Pros: Great dollar/frames ratio. Fast card even if "long in the tooth old". It still keeps up late 2011 mid-range cards.

Cons: As can be seen by other reviews the rebate is a joke. They were not even going to give me the $20 in the form of a rebate check. They were going to send me a $20 AMEX reward card. Sheesh. Contacted rebate processing center to no avail. I just gave up because it's not worth the effort. When purchasing a Sapphire card (which has been a good card for me) just assume the rebate will never come your way and price the card accordingly.

Never had a problem with card reliability. 12/15/2011 12:03:11 AM

Pros: I love this card. I ran it with an intel qx6850 core 2 quad at 3.6Ghz and it never broke a sweat. I had to upgrade to an i7 just to push this thing above 90% usage.

Cons: I've had some extreme instability, but it's always ended up being drivers and not the card. ATI should really be ashamed at their drivers the last few years. Nvidia's drivers used to be a joke but it seems the rolls have changed.

Overall Review: I want to buy a second one for crossfire now!

Had to underclock card to get it stable. 9/4/2011 7:00:14 AM

Pros: Pretty powerful card that can run everything on high settings with low noise.

Cons: Everything runs smooth on the desktop but as soon as I boot into a game, it all goes down hill. I've had at least one gray screen/driver crash in about 90% of the games I've played which is annoying, but I kept updating the drivers hoping for a fix. I booted up Batman Arkham Asylum and had the driver crash 5 times in the first 30 minutes. I was just about to spend $500.00 to buy a new video card, when I decided to try underclocking the card. I've played 10 hours now without a single issue.

Overall Review: This was my second Ati card that I've bought but I think I'll go back to Nvidia for my next graphics card purchase.

Problem 7/26/2011 7:10:32 AM

Pros: Runs games like Starcraft 2, Portal 2 on high settings easily.

Cons: I've had it for 8 months and its just never been 100% there. It's not grossly unstable, but it's far from reliable. I've experienced a frequently reported problem with this line of cards: flickering on a second monitor when the card switches between 2d and 3d modes (search for "second monitor flicker.")

I also get frequent unpredictable graphical crashes while gaming. Sometimes with the "display driver stopped responding and has recovered error." Sometimes with the "gray screen of death/stripes" issue. I've even had a one or two BSODs.

tldr: Unstable, would not buy again.

Overall Review: Time to buy a new card. :-/
