Can I install more than one in my laptop. I am shopping and on some laptops they give you space for a SSD, and two hard drives or another SSD?

I have a 17" HP laptop with space for two 2.5" drives. We use an SSD for operating system and programs, and keep all the data on the 2nd normal drive.
Some computers support one 2.5" drive, but also have an mSATA slot where you can install an mSATA SSD "chip". Some laptops will support installing the OS and booting from this chip, and others would require additional software to use the mSATA chip as a cache drive. At our office the Lenovo T420 and T430 support the latter.
If your laptop only has a spot for a single drive, and an SSD that is big enough for your data is too expensive, then these Seagate Hybrid drives are the best option

How does one, use such a device? is it partitioned as 1tb and 8gbssd? I see these on laptops and wonder, do they fit the os on 8gb, and use the rest for storage? Wanting to replace a hdd, thats loaded with games, with something faster, and can double my capacity.

Well the SSHD does not have a real storage you can access what it does do is it puts data that is commonly used on the SSD and keep the original copy still on the HDD. Meaning if you run the OS multiple times as in the boot up it will put the data on to the SSD, on which the speed it can reach is much faster then a regular HDD. So it would be good for just storage and running the 8Gbs of what you want faster. If you want something that is always fast with every program, just get a SSD, not a Hybrid. It's just the price mark that makes it a good deal.

If you are referring to a 5.25 bay adapter kit I believe it does, I got this drive 2 years ago so I'm not 100% sure to be honest.  If you are referring to software to clone your drive no it doesn't.  Use something like Acronis for that or windows migration, personally I like Acronis because it will clone one drive to another exactly as it is as long as the new drive is the same size or larger.

I have a 15 inch macbook pro that I bought in early 2012.  does not have the retina display.  I am looking at buying the 1tb drive to install in my machine.  Will this fit?  Is it compatable?  What else will I need to complete the install (tools and/or software), including transfering everything from my old drive over.  My current drive works fine, but I need more space.

Yes, it will fit, and no, there is not other necessary software. You will need a way to access your other hard drive after swapping them, to obtain your files however; if you have a backup drive I suggest just using that.

would this hard drive work for a Sony Vaio, VPCF1 model.  It has an Intel core i7 chip, 8 gig RAM, windows 8.1 / 64-bit (upgraded from windows 7), and 500 GB of hard-dirve?

Yes, the standard type & size for most laptops will be a SATA 2.5" HD. This is a nice upgrade for your system. I would recommend to install the latest BIOS for your system before swapping the HD.

Want to put your system to an even higher level? Upgrade the RAM to 16Gb.

This is a hybrid drive. 1GB is a standard harddrive and 64MB is chip based memory. Mine has been reliable and in use since 2014, but with the lower price of SSD memory, I'd look for a hybrid drive with more solid state memory.

Hi, I was planning on buying this and didn't know if I needed to buy a usb-sata adapter separately or if it comes with it?

This is a 2.5" internal laptop drive with a SATA connection (power and data). If you want to use it as an external device, you will need some sort of enclosure with whatever interface you require for the host system you will use it with. If you are installing it into a notebook or desktop PC, you should be able to mount it and use the internal connections already there for the drive you are replacing.

I put it in a 2012 13 inch macbook pro. Go to your system profile and search that hard drive to make sure the size is the same. On a side note the drive is great. Fast and big

As far as I know there is no difference between the "kit" and the bare drive.  If you're planning to install this drive in a desk top, you'll need an adapter but that is sold separately.
