Is this a bare bones kit or does it come with connector and transfer data software?

Just a harddrive. Look at the specs and they should tell whether or not it comes with accessories. Also online forums should have referals to free transfer software.

I installed the Seagate Barracuda 1TB with 64mb SSD cache in an iMac Late 2006 and my performance increased dramatically. It actually runs much faster than a late 2007 24in iMac I have. I just bought the latest 27 in iMac and the late 2006 is very close. Problem with the 06 model is it won't run latest OS and supports a max of 2.5gb RAM. I highly recommend the SSHD. The Mac/Apple Fusion Drive is same concept. The Seagate model I bought and installed is actually selling for around 50.00 now. I can't see any difference in specs.

Nope. HOWEVER... You can go to the Seagate website and download "seatools" or something like that. It was a very helpful tool. Basically, it allows you to test, format, and set volume size parameters with a simple point and click interface. You do however have to burn the program to a disk (or usb drive) for boot purposes. Put the disk in, reboot, point and click and away you go.

Better, is subjective. As far as faster, I own plenty WD Black, and the Seagate is noticeably faster, to an extent, for load up times, its faster, for continuously running things like audio and video, I think the WD might have a slight edge. As far as reliability goes, that is yet to be determined,but all Hard drives fail anyway, so its best to always back up! One thing I noticed is that the Seagate is much lighter in weight than the WD. But overall I'm happy with it!

I have a Samsung SSD (80GB) in my Z68 MB System using Intel RST.  Would I keep that configuration or change my SSD to a boot disk and use this SSHD as my secondary drive?

Keep current setup. 3TB HD is $100 if you need space and SSHD is slower than SSD. Maybe 6 months later you can buy 250G SSD for $100 and move/clone your boot drive to the new SSD.

I purchased the drive 2 years ago and all I knew was it was faster and better life, for those that is really true. Solid State Hard Drives like flash drives which are the same but called SSD instead but made exactly the same, are the best kind of drive I found.  It does work twice as fast, no defrag or anything, now I defragged mine once because I was not sure which was about 6 months after I got it but never after that, it is right now 87.27% unfragged and on regular drive you have to defrag if it is 5 percent or more, but with a SSD or SSHD there is no heads so no need to defrag it.  Now of course mine is 70 gigs and cost more then but it was worth what I paid so for what your paying or could pay, its worth that and double, now I use mine for a game drive, first it was a windows drive but after updates got to small for it so i had  to move to another drive. Anyways hope this helps

Yes. I am running Windows 8.1 x64 on two of these drives set in RAID0. Performance has thus far been superior in every way to traditional hard disk drives.

Is this HD compatible with my iMac?

You should be fine as it is a standard SATA drive.  Your iMac should be SATA compliant, but check your documentation or look inside the case at the current drive.

Keep in mind that if you order just the drive and not the kit, it will not come with cables, mounting brackets, or screws.

It is a good, fast drive.  I also purchased the laptop version for my MacBook.  It was a quick disk transfer using Time Machine.

how do you transfer old hard drive info?

First you need a good disk cloning/imaging/backup program that can do the job. Seagate's DiscWizard program (Free version of Acronis True Image) is great for this. You can get it at Seagate's website. Go to Support \ Downloads \ DiscWizard.

Note: You can only use the Free DiscWizard if you have a Seagate drive connected to your computer. It may not let you install it until the Seagate is connected but if you already have a Seagate or Maxtor drive connected to your computer, you can install it right away.

As for the physical part of the job:

Method 1:
The Easiest/Fastest would be to hook up this drive in your computer along with your old hard drive (you'll need an available SATA port, SATA cable & SATA power connector). Then, clone/copy from the old drive to the new.

Method 2:
If you can't hookup both drives at the same time (unlikely, especially if you have a SATA port you can borrow, temporarily, from the CD/DVD drive), then you'll need to backup to external storage (e.g. usb/esata disk) first, then plug in the new drive, boot the system from the DiscWizard bootable CD and restore the backup to the new disk.... yes, this is a lot more hassle.

DiscWizard can handle either method, but with method 2, you need to burn a bootable DiscWizard CD (instructions should come with the program).

Assuming this disk is a different size than your old disk, DiscWizard can re-size the partitions automatically for you or you can manually select the new partition sizes.
