I have never come across a drive that ever had any operating system (unless it is already installed in a complete system). There are sometimes backup and health programs, but that is about all you will ever get. Typically, internal hard drives don't have any software. They mostly  come formatted, so you can use it for storage right away. You might come across some brands that don't format and make you do it, but I believe the standard is an empty, formatted drive. Mine was that way. Do some searches on how to clone your existing system otherwise you will have to purchase an operating system (or use something free like LINUX).

Not sure what you are asking. Overall the drive is great, it combines SSD and HD to create a fast hard disk. My first purchase was for the PS4 and games load fast and start fast download speeds are quick. Now Using in a PC I have enough storage for all my games on PC and have the support of a fast drive over traditional HDs. Plus this allows speed gains without the expensive cost of an SSD.

It is only about 8GB but it is plenty to speed up boot time (this is most noticeable) and frequently used applications. It acts more like an over-sized cache. Best inexpensive alternative to buying two separate drives.

Can this drive be mounted on it's top, aka upside down? How about vertical?

I have had mine quite a while now, you can mount them any way you like and it doesn't affect it at all, if you were to mount it outside the case though I'd get an external enclosure for it like I did for a while.
Great drive for the price I paid.

how long is the dive supposed to live for and has it died on any of you?

It's designed to live upwards of five years and so far Ive had it for 9 months roughly, haven't had a single issue and it is running beautifully in my computer still

It uses standard SATA... doesn't require a specific driver, so as long as your motherboard is supported by xp, this drive will work.

No, it did not for both the ones I purchased.  However I bought cables in the color that I wanted to match my rig so it would have mattered anyway.

Yes, you can. Mine chugs out some decent read/write speeds as well.

This isn't a power supply, it is a power-consuming device. That said, the answer to your specific question is O watts.  Perhaps you are asking about another product?
