Can this drive be used for gaming?

Hello,

You COULD use these drives for gaming but you are likely not to notice much of a difference (except maybe in load times) since games do not constantly read/write to the hard drive like it would if you were using the drives for surveillance purposes.

I would recommend using a high performance consumer drive instead like the WD Black hard drives or the less expensive WD Blue drives that come in various capacities.  SSDs are also recommended over any high performance hard drive, hope this helps!

Will this work in my normal computer as a regular hdd for storing files?

I don't see why not. I use six of them together in my Synology NAS storage system and they work great. There's no reason you can't use them separately as a stand alone drive. I'm no expert in the field, this is just my opinion though.

Type "ST4000NE0025 v ST4000NE001" into your internet browser to find a comparison. Review of the comparison indicates that the newer version, ST4000NE001, is a 0.037 kg lighter and has a slightly higher power draw (9.0 Watts v 8.5 Watts) and idle power draw (5.5 Watts v 5.45 Watts) than the older version, ST4000NE0025. All other specs are the same.
