Would this work as a replacement hard drive in a HP Compaq 8710p and/or a HP 6730b?

The specifications for all 2.5" hard drives are published with a thickness measurement. Most of the 2.5" hard drives are 9mm thick. Some are 12mm thick. If in doubt measure the thickness of your old hard drive and compare that to the thickness of the new hard drive. If the thicknesses match up, you're good to go. 
If in doubt, buy a 9mm thick hard drive since they will work with ANY laptop.

Question 2

I Have a Dell 820 laptop. I purchase a Seagate Momentus Thin Hybrid 500GB (ST500LM021) and it is not recognize by the laptop. The Old hard Drive was a Seagate 320GB. Is this drive as the Hybrid?

If I recall correctly, this hard drive may have built in encryption.  That is likely the reason why your system isn't recognizing it.  You may want to play around with the BIOS a little to see if there is a way to change that configuration.

Will this hard drive work in a late 2012 mac mini?

I don't use Macs but several Apple resellers sell these for the Mac Mini so I would assume it will work in yours. It may require a firmware update.

Yes as far as I can tell any 2.5" notebook hard drive will work. I have had very good success with these drives in my Lenovo laptops.

I have a Asus eee pc 900HA web book. I have not seen anything related to HD encryption in the Bios. Is this compatible?

That encryption, for the most part, is transparent to the BIOS and should not be a proverbial "train smasher"!

Question 7

The description says this item has encryption available, does this particular item have encryption or is that feature available on a separate item similiar to this? I am just looking for a basic 7mm hard drive, don't need to use encryption.

Encryption is standard on this drive.  Your BIOS has to be able to support "locking" it.  ST500LT012 is the plain drive.

Yes, and it works great!  Also make sure your laptop's BIOS supports HDD password/encryption ( unlike Sony ) before wasting the extra money on an SED drive like I did. Cheers.
