What size is this drive?

4 TB (terabyte) are units of measurement for storage size. Another common measure is MB (megabyte). 1024MB = 1GB and 1024GB = 1TB. So for instance, a 500GB hard drive has approximately 1/2 the capacity of a 1TB hard drive.

What size is this? 2.5 or 3.5? I'm looking to put it in my PS4 which needs 2.5, but I don't see a size anywhere on the page.

It's a 3.5, I believe.

I'm a bit of a PC newbie, but this installed into my Antec 900 hard drive cage, and I'm pretty certain those mount 3.5 inch drives.

what is the capacity of the ssd portion?

Well its an 8gb mlc but it is not addressable by the OS, it is used to cache frequently used files and is managed by the drive firmware rather than the user

I've always been curious if it's better to have a combination SSHD such as this, or if it really is better to have a dedicated SSD and HDD separate.  It seems that this way is definitely cheaper to do, but is it certainly more effective over that of having a separate combination?  That's certainly something to consider for sure...

I've had my hybrid SSD 4TB for a few months now and have been totally satisfied. I mainly use it for gaming and recording my streams.  Because I already had a really small SSD, I run windows off of the SSD and everything else off of my Hybrid SSHD.

I'm more of a novice when it comes to computer operations but I believe from my research that my SSHD should be in between a SSD and HDD for speed, but will last a heck of a lot longer than a SSD which is still much faster.

Not sure if I was helpful but like I said I am totally satisfied with this especially at the price.  Here are the games I play or have running while i stream and record. FF14, Tera, GW2, League of Legends, WoW and a few more.  All of these seem to have minimul boot times or loading screens with this SSHD.  Have a great day.

Would this be OK for a late 2012 iMac 27"?

Alan, the drive works fine for me in a Windows based machine. Our IT group had difficulty making this a boot drive but that could be self-imposed due to our corporate standard build policies. You should make sure that your Mac OS can recognize a 4 terabyte hard drive and partition it as necessary. This drive is working well as a storage drive no, difficulties. Seagate always makes good quality products.

Question 7

SSDs now commonly support TRIM, and are considered a necessity of a feature. Do SSHDs also support TRIM?
Also, does this show up as two seperate drives in a partition manager?

Because the SSD portion is controlled by the drive firmware and hidden from the host system, there is no need for TRIM. The SSD is an ultra-fast cache layer to a standard drive. TRIM is only useful on a full SSD.

is this drive compatible with Mac Minis?

No. This is a 3.5" internal drive (obviously would not fit in mac mini). You can however use it as an external storage device with a sata to usb3 kit such as:

However a 6Gbps SSHD is a bit overkill for simple external storage use, unless you are really after the 4TB capacity in a single form factor.

It is a 3.5 inch drive the ps4 only takes 2.5 inch. You could get an external conversion kit and turn this into an external drive and plug it into a usb port, that would be the only way it would work with the ps4.

Is this external hard drive for backing up a computer?

External drives are for storing or backing up files. If you're looking to back up a computer you would be wise to buy another drive the same size as is installed in your PC and use a software utility called Easus free edition to clone your current hadr drive.
