Are these Android phone compatible?

Yes, the cord is two-piece and comes with two lower halves. It comes with a plain wire with a 3mm jack on the bottom, as well as a wire with inline volume and other iDevice controls and a 3mm jack on the bottom.

So, if you use the plain wire these are a normal pair of headphones. If you use the other wire, some Android devices will allow you to use the volume control, but the iDevice speficic stuff obviously isn't going to work.

If they meet your needs they sound amazing.

Do the head phones need batteries?? Do they play loud using a phone as the source?

They don't need nor can take any batteries.   On an iPhone 5, using the headphone jack can produce pain when the volume is more than 3/4, however, the headphones don't distort.  Throughout the spectrum, these headphones are very accurate and critical, so don't be surprised if you hear compression artifacts and phone distortions that you may not have heard before.  They sound their best with high quality input, a good sound card and lossless or at least high bit rate audio.
