Can tis be used to extend the display or only to copy it?

This adapter will install just like if you had an extra VGA capable port, allowing you to add a monitor for whatever purpose you need. I've used it to both mirror (for presentations) and to extend desktops (for workstations). I don't think you should have any problem doing either extending your display or mirroring it, depending on your needs.

Hello, I can't say for sure it will work with your Dell model, but what I can tell you is it works very well on Windows 7 and should allow for you to hook up a second monitor to most PCs and laptops since it's USB 2.0 and 3.0 compatible. I hook mine to a VGA projector for my  lectures and via a HP Folio 13 ultrabook running Windows 7 Pro. I would definitely recommend over similar products on the market, as the software that comes with this is very stable and non invasive.

I have 2 monitors, and a gaming laptop with 1 hdmi output, Im wondering If i buy this product will it work to connect my other monitor? and not mirror the image but extend it.

I used this product to drive a remote monitor at the end of a 30ft VGA cable.  I was using a lenovo laptop running Windows SP.  I had a total of three displays.  The laptop, a 2nd plugged into the vga port on the laptop -- and the third being driving by this device.  Yes -- I extended the desktop --  did not mirror it.

Will this support a 3rd monitor on my Lenovo x220? I have a 2nd monitor and am looking for a way to add a 3rd. The onboard vid card doesn't support more than 2.

Hi, I use this product only to hookup my laptop to a VGA classroom projector. In theory I think what you're suggesting is very possible, but I'm not sure what your computer is going to project onto that third screen. Will it literally extend your desktop or will it just repeat a presentation of the 1st or 2nd screen? I know typically some properties setting in Windows are responsible for this so if you're computer savy enough to figure this software component out I don't think the hardware will let you down. I tried a couple of other similar products last year and this one is the best. Very Windows compatible and requires little memory to run.

The hub would most likely need to have it's own power supply. A bus-powered hub would probably get overloaded.

I have only used this to add additional monitors, not as a single monitor. It should work if you are using onboard video already and this to add a second or third monitor.

I'm using my SIIG unit w/Windows 7, but yes, there are also drivers for Mac OS X.  Check SIIG's web site www_dot_siig_dot_com support downloads section and enter part number ju-vg0012-s1 to see if the version you need is available.

I have an HP all in one pc whose display quit working. Having only USB ports (no Vga), I'm wondering if this device will work to connect to my tv, which has usb and hdmi ports available?  If it will, do I need to buy specific cables to make the connections?

Though the device is labeled as "hot plug" it may or may not need drivers to be installed before you can use it for external video. The problem with this is, in your situation, your onboard video not working means you aren't able to find and install drivers. I purchased this product in 2014 coincidentally for my mother's all-in-one, and there was no driver install needed, I simply plugged it in and it worked. For that reason I recommend you purchase the adapter, and if it doesn't work that easily - simply return it. As far as the connections are concerned, you will need to plug as follows: TV > VGA cable > SIIG VGA adapter > PC. If it turns out your TV doesn't have a VGA port, you will instead need a USB to HDMI adapter (different product entirely). The advice and cabling is essentially the same except you switch the adapter to an HDMI adapter, and connect it to the TV with an HDMI cable. Keep in mind VGA only transmits video, not sound. HDMI does both. Also, buy your cables online too, retail stores gouge you for them
