So if no AC adapter is included, how do you charge this unit so that in turn you can charge your iPhone or whatever?

There are a couple of options.  It can be plugged into any computer's USB port.   Keep in mind, it takes about four hours for a full charge.  Or do what I do.  I use an AC adapter with a USB port and connect it with the included cable.  It would work as well if you have an adapter with a micro USB plug on the end of it's own cable (like those provided with many phones).  The one I use provides 0.5A, as a computer's would.  Some may provide more, but I don't know if the battery's internal circuitry will allow it to charge faster.

Where do I find the serial number on this unit?

I don't remember ever seeing a serial number on this unit I know the original box had a serial maybe even the internal may have it
