Pros: Good price, high quality drive

Cons: Although I didn't expect any cables with an OEM drive, it would have been nice to be reminded that you need a special SATA power cable, and show that item (Newegg has it) along side the drive listing. I forgot about the special cable and had to order it after it came. It's not the same one as for SATA hard drives. You need Newegg #: N82E16812706026 which includes the SATA data cable and SATA power conversion cable to fit standard Molex power connectors.

Pros: YOU MUST PURCHASE A SLIMLINE SATA CABLE FOR THIS DRIVE. I bought on on the Egg here, and had no installation issues. I knew that I would need this cable prior to purchase, however I noticed that many people seem to be marking a low rating on this drive because they did not do their research. Tisk Tisk... That said, I installed this drive in a Silverstone Sugo SG05. It fit great and only needed slight adjustment for the tray to clear the cases front panel. It is surprisingly quiet for a slim drive, and has already burned many many disc's both single and dual layer. It's slower than I am used to, however I am used to 5.25" drives in my desktop, so given its size, this is NOT a con. It operates at advertised speeds. So far I have tested this drive with Windows XP Pro, Windows 7, Ubuntu 9.04, and OSX 10.5.7. Worked like a charm on all OS's.

Cons: I was bummed about having to buy an additional cable, since I have a box full of standard SATA cables. This is an OEM drive though, so again, this really isn't a con. The Slimline SATA cable I bought was pretty cheap (thanks Newegg!), and I probably won't ever need another.

Overall Review: If one is audacious enough to label themselves as having a "high" level of tech knowledge then at least be aware of what you're buying before you punch in your credit card digits. Sheesh!

Pros: This particular item was purchased as a direct result of purchasing a MSI MS-1722 barebones notebook. It seems like everyone and their mother is selling these notebooks. Whether it is by design, I noticed a trend. If you purchase a 17 inch MSI notebook with the very nice graphics card preinstalled. That notebook has no Optical drive. If you buy the barebones with less graphic card solution and or a smaller screen (The optical/dvd drive comes with). This MSI MS-1722 id1 is a nice notebook. So, I bought two new. Got one for $222.50 no CPU/memory.HD/Wifi/ or Super Dvd drive. The notebook that had the dvd included $160.00 more. But, I still needed a dvd drive for the other. This Sony Optiarc slid right in (works) However, the besel does not match. There is a half inch gap on the bottom of the notebook. They sell a besel kit, do not know if it will work/fit or not. Seems like the MSI Multi drive for these note books are as scarce as hens teeth, the besel to.

Cons: This drive works, with a barebones notebook the MSI MS-1722 The besel does not match. But it is the correct size to fit and work in the MSI Barebones MS-1722 for all you people snagging those inexpensive notebooks off the bay. Once you spend a few days searching for the original optical drive and can not find one. Newegg will save your greedy behinds like they saved mine. Thanks again Newegg, and again.................Plus the drive shipped so fast the UPS truck must have Raptors X's under the hood!!

Overall Review: Be glad when my Wife comes home shes pretty cool.

Pros: This drive eliminates the bulky 40-conductor IDE ribbon cable and the klugy ATAPI-to-IDE adpter board normally found on slim CD and DVD drives. New motherboards usually have plenty of spare SATA ports to use.

Cons: NewEgg sells this as an OEM version without the required special SATA data+power cable, called the "micro SATA cable", "slimline SATA cable", or "slim SATA cable". These are just now becoming available so google to find it.

Pros: Works and fits in my Dell Optiplex 960 sff. No extra cable needed for my sys. Loaded XP Pro/32 and Vista Premium 64 OK. Nice drive to complement my quiet sff system.`

Cons: They should include those darn 2xm2 screws with these drives, I lose them all the time.

Overall Review: might post performance data later, just wanted to get the system fit on the record for others that might be looking.

Pros: Excellent slim SATA drive, fast read and write, No more bulky IDE.

Cons: I was not sure If I should write this as cons but here it is: Be aware that this is an OEM version from Newegg, thus no manual and no cable. Find a slimline SATA cable somewhere else since Newegg does not have it, I got min from e**y for just $4.

Overall Review: To test this drive, I plugged it onto machine (gateway) with Win XP SP3, and It did works well. I bought this for my mini ITX Intel DG45FC with Vista Business 64 installed, it does work well. I planned to dual boot VISTA with Ubuntu 64bit and I will update my review after that.

Pros: Works like a drive. Goes whir and the computer says ho hum -- as things should be.

Cons: No screws included (and they are special little things like eyglass screws -- not the normal computer case/drive fine or coarse thread screws desktop guys like me have laying around).

Overall Review: I put this in a mini-ITX HTPC system (case is Antek ISK 300). The Antec case comes with a slimline SATA cable so that was a good thing. This works fine. I'm glad I got this one because the reviews of the $200+ Blu-Ray slimline versions are pitiful at best. This will work for me until somebody makes a good reliable slimline Blu-Ray combo or burner drive.
