Can I plug an OTA cable line into it and have it change the channels?

I use it for a HDMI switch. I have Direct TV, Blu Ray, and gaming consoles hooked up to it. I cannot anwser your question for tha one. I know for a cheap unit, it does a good job and has very good sound quality if mixed with good speakers. The Video pass through has not hindered the quality to my eye at all.

is it possible to link the controller to a PS3?

I assume you mean to use the AV remote as a sort of media center remote for the PS3. Unfortunately not, at least not by any means I'm aware of. It does support the HDMI control protocols though, so if you connect it to a PS3 and your TV you should be able to turn all of it on by turning any of it on and all of it off the same way. Beyond that you can sort of control a TV (volume, channel) using the remote but people have had issues with it, and as mentioned in one of the reviews, you need to hold the TV button and then press the function so it's sorta pointless. Get a universal remote, you'll be better off.

can this receiver be set up for two zones?

You can either use the Center Rear as a front top zone or the center zone while still using the rear zone independently. This is a great receiver for the money, I also have the Onkio 899 version and I choose to use the Sony instead because it's down to earth easy to use and setup, the wattage Sony claims is true where as the wattage Onkio claimed was false, imagine that!
