I need the mounting holes to be 18 5/16 inches apart; what is this measurement?

I believe the measurement you're looking for is the "width" measurement (which the description says is 19"). While I can't say this self is suitable for your application, I can say it fit in our Dell 19" rack just fine. This unit has a slot versus an single screw hole, so you have a "little" play in actual screw holes to allow for potential variation in rack widths.... Hope this helps.
