Question 1

Should I use the StarTech PRIVSCNMON24 or leave my monitor without a privacy filter?

Accepted Answer

Choose the PRIVSCNMON24 when you work with information that should not be visible to people beside you, such as in an open office or shared workspace. Use the monitor without a filter when side-by-side viewing or sharing the full screen is more important than limiting side views.

Question 2

StarTech PRIVSCNMON24 vs. 3M PF240W9EM: which should I choose?

Accepted Answer

Choose the StarTech if you want a 24-inch, 16:9 filter that can attach with adhesive strips or slide-mount tabs. Choose the 3M PF240W9EM if you prefer a magnetic attachment for taking the filter off and on for screen sharing. Both are designed for 24-inch, 16:9 monitors and advertise side-view privacy; check your monitor’s panel dimensions and attachment needs before buying.

Question 3

Will the StarTech PRIVSCNMON24 fit a 24-inch 16:10 monitor?

Accepted Answer

No. The PRIVSCNMON24 is made for a 24-inch 16:9 display. For a 24-inch 16:10 monitor, choose a filter made for that aspect ratio, such as StarTech’s PRIVACY-SCREEN-24MB, and confirm the filter dimensions against the monitor’s visible panel.

Question 4

How much privacy does this screen provide from side views?

Accepted Answer

The filter is designed to limit viewing outside approximately 30 degrees to either side of the screen’s center. It is intended to make side viewing harder, but should not be treated as a guarantee that screen content is hidden in every situation.

Question 5

Will this privacy screen fit my 24-inch monitor?

Accepted Answer

It is designed for a 24-inch widescreen display with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Before buying, check that the monitor’s visible screen area matches the filter’s 20.90 × 11.80-inch dimensions; diagonal size alone does not guarantee a fit.

Question 6

Will this filter reduce glare or affect screen clarity?

Accepted Answer

The filter is reversible: its matte side is intended to reduce glare, while its glossy side is intended to preserve a clearer-looking image. It also reduces blue light by 30% to 40%; users who prioritize the brightest, unfiltered display may prefer not to leave a privacy filter in place.

Question 7

Can I remove the filter, or does it stay attached permanently?

Accepted Answer

It has two mounting options: side tabs for removable attachment and adhesive strips for a more lasting fit. The product information says the adhesive strips are intended to come off without permanent residue.

Question 8

How does the privacy feature work?

Accepted Answer

This monitor security filter provides privacy outside a +/-30° viewing angle from the center of your 16:9 24" widescreen display, keeping data on your desktop screen confidential.

Question 9

What is the weight of this privacy filter?

Accepted Answer

The weight of the privacy filter is 3.50 oz.

Question 10

I often work in a brightly lit environment. Can this filter help reduce glare?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the monitor privacy filter retains sharp and consistent image quality in any lighting with an anti-glare matte-finish or a high-clarity glossy-finish, which can help reduce glare.
