What is the purpose of one HDMI input and 2 RJ45 outputs? Kinda like an HDMI splitter? also how do you turn it back into HDMI on the other end?

It uses two RJ-45 because in order to run HDMI signal over ethernet, you need 2 cables because it needs more than the 4 pairs that CAT5e/CAT6 have. All it does is extend HDMI using CAT5 cables, no where in the description does it mention anything about over network. We use this in an waiting room where the HDMI output device (in our case a bluray player) is in a closet, and we connected it to two RJ45 drops which run from the closet to the waiting area. James C gave this a bad review because he failed to read the description before buying.

Could I connect the two RJ-45 cables to a router?

No, is just from computer hdmi out to hdtv hdmi in , either. still have to load in my case ati video card drivers with hdmi audio to get both audio and video as well. 2 orange non shielded cat5-6 cables worked fine for resolution computer set to like 1280x720 max however. wont take 1600x1200 or larger but looks fine widescreen 16x9 on hdmi tv. perfectly.
