Windows and OSX, but no support for Linux :( StarTech has their own website where you can check for driver compatibility/availability in case they ever expand their supported platforms.

Yes, I have two of them running over USB3 on windows 8.1 x64.  They are driving two dell U2413 Monitors at 1920 x 1200.  I don't have anything to test 2560 x 1440 on, so I can't speak to that resolution.

would this be compatible to a toshiba satellite c55-b? looking to do more gaming on my computer, not sure if this would work.

Assuming you're still running Windows on your Satellite, then compatibility should not be an issue.  It looks like you have a USB 3.0 port on this model, but I would like to point out that this device also performs fairly well when connected to USB 2.0, when 3.0 is not an option.

That being said, this is a great product to add an additional monitor for web browsing, line of business applications, and even watching movies/video, but it is not adequate for FPS demanding gaming.  However, if you wanted to game on your laptop's main monitor, or monitor connected to your video out (VGA/HDMI) port, and use this to add an additional monitor for YouTube, walk throughs, stat guides, maps, etc. while gaming, then that would work just fine.
