What RAID types are supported by this card?

Jeffrey N:  I don't know if your question is the question to ask.  In my case, I use this card to connect external SATA drives (eSATA).  In my case, the card acts only as a SATA passthrough to the external box of hard drives.  It is my external box that determines the RAID.  I have the box set as RAID10.  Therefore, the card passes data through, from a server, to the external RAID10 box.  I did not see any provisioning on the card to establish RAID.  But, of course, because of my external box, I didn't look either.

do i have to do anything to the card to connect an internal ssd hd?

The setup is pretty straight forward, install the PCI-E card into an available slot, install the SSD inside your computer case, connect an appropriate cable from the SSD to the PCI-E card port on the internal side, port 1 or 2 is fine there is no difference. The only thing I would tell you that tripped me up at first when I installed the drive was that each port can be set to EITHER internal OR external by adjustment of the jumpers. It is NOT 2 External & 2 Internal ports. It took me a little while to figure this out as both of my ports were set to external (not sure if this was the default setting or not). So just make sure whichever of the 2 ports you are using is/are set to use the internal connection not the external connection. Instructions for this are in the manual included in the package.

Can anyone tell me definitively if this card will support AHCI & will I be able to boot Win 7/8.1?

Honestly don't recall buying this product and don't know if it will support AHCI in either Win 7 or 8, I did buy a usb 3.0 card but do not have an extra int/ext Sata in either of my pc's   Sorry couldn't help

I've only used this with windows 7. I might work under XP but im not sure that the port multiplier will work.

I cannot answer that.  I have a single hard drive bay that I connect to it.  This makes for very fast backup and transfer.

I have never tried using this card with LInux.
Although I don't consider myself an expert, I also gave up trying to use it with Win7 - went to an eSata to USB3 converter which turned out to be very fast.

I have a Dell desktop running Win 8.1 Pro with a motherboard that has an Intel H61 chipset, (a) which I understand does not support AHCI, and (b) is only SATA II compatible. I have recently purchased a 2.5” SSD and would like to make that SATA III compatible (and, if possible AHCI compatible as well). How may I achieve that? If I install this  PCI-Express 2.0 Controller Card (available on Newegg), into a PCI slot on my computer and then connect the SSD to this controller card (or to the motherboard, not sure what would plug into what), would it make my SSD, SATA III compatible? Also, would I need to upgrade the cable that connects the SSD to the motherboard/PCI controller card? Thanks.

Are the external port eSATAp (Power over eSATA)?  An eSATA or USB device can be plugged into an eSATAp port.  The socket has keyed cutouts for both types of device to ensure that a connector can only be plugged in the right way.
