Question 1

Has anyone had luck getting this to work with eSATA? I bought an eSATA PCI express card, my operating system recognizes the card just fine, but it doesn't seem to recognize the drives when plugged in. The card supports port mutiplier, which the documentation of this drive bay says is required.

I use this enclosure with this card: StarTech  1x eSATA + 1x SATA 6 Gbps PCI Express SATA Controller Card Adapter PEXSAT31E1 (Red)

Sometimes the drives will drop out and I have to reboot the server with the enclosure off and turn it on right after the server powers up.  This happens about once every couple of months.

Question 2

I want to use this device with 3 HDDs that were in separate computers. I want to be able to read and write data to the three separate HDDs, and not have the drives in a RAID. I want individual access to my existing HDDs. Can this be done? Thank you.

If you are a Windows 8/10 user why bother with Raid.  You can use Microsoft "Storage Spaces", which is much better than RAID and it doesn't have silly limits like storage sized limits.  Storage Spaces is built into Windows 8 and Windows 10.  It just makes more sense and you can save a lot of money on hardware.

Can I use this with external dvd drives? I want to use this as an external dvd tower, and am planning on adding four dvd drives to it if possible.

Do you know the difference between a 5.25" device and a 3.5" one? If so, then you know the answer. If not, then you definitely have to find out. For starters, this is not a 5.25" enclosure. Read the description already.

Very silent. No internal fan so no noise.

What is the size limit on the drives that can be used in each bay?

The size of the drives is only limited by the SATA III standard.  So, I don't think there is a practical limit at this time.  I currently have 6TB drives in it.  One WD and the other is Seagate.
