Will this work with M.2 PCI-e drives like Samsung 950 pro, or the new Intel 600p?

Hi. I got confirmation from startech, and there is currently no m.2 PCI-E to sata adaptor, so this will ONLY work with M.2 sata drives.

The referenced StarTech SSD M.2 to 2.5in SATA adapter is for physical conversion only, to allow replacing a laptop SATA HDD with a SATA M.2 drive, or to use with a two slot drive cloning unit, such as the inateck FD2002.  In both these cases, the M.2 drive must use the SATA electrical interface; they cannot use the new higher speed NVMe interface.  There is no way to use an NVMe M.2 drive with a SATA interface.  SATA and NVMe M.2 cards have different slot cutouts on their connectors.  If you want to use an MVMe M.2 SSD in a desktop, and you have a spare PCIe Gen 3 socket on your computer motherboard that is capable of at least x4, and your motherboard supports the new NVMe standard, there are adapter cards that can take an NVMe M.2 SSD and work fine.

Question 3

Will this support a Samsung SSD 850 EVO M.2??   I know it says so, but my 250 GB M.2 has two cut-outs and the appearance is that the board only has one cut-out.

Your M.2 SSD is a SATA drive, as it has both the B and M cut-outs.  Note that the two cut-outs are not symmetrically placed.  You can only put your card in the socket one way, so turn it over if you have to to line up the B slot to fit in the connector.  Your card will work with this adapter, since it is SATA only.

Does this convert an size M.2 to a 12.7mm high 2.5" SATA3?

It doesn't convert anything - it's an adapter for hooking up an M2 SSD to a normal SATA interface.  If you look at the picture, there are different screw holes for the different sizes it supports:  2230, 2242, 2260, 2280.  The first two digits indicate width, the last two indicate length.  The M2 SSD will then sit down flat, parallel to the PCB and secured with a provided screw.  Let me know if you want pictures or measurement of height - I doubt you would have a problem.

There are 3 types of "Key" types. B, M & B+M. Will this work for a M - Key SSD? I have an Intel SSDSCMMW180A3L HD.

This appears to be a 'B' type of connector, I have not been able to get it to work with one keyed for 'M'. Wish they would have specified that.
