Question 1

I cannot connect to the internet through a rj45 cable to my router from my desktop.  The router is okay.  I get cable unplugged error message,  I assume my NIC is bad.  My system is XP with an Intel Celeron Processor, will USB 2.0 replace my NIC?

Yeah that should work you might need to install drivers for it for Windows XP but it should work. Two things you may also want to try one make sure the ethernet cable is good try using a different ethernet cable. Also try using a couple different ports on the router to make sure the port you're plugging into on the router is'nt bad. But if the routers fine and the cables working fine then this USB Ethernet card will work just fine.
