Question 1

Does anyone use this mouse pad with an optical mouse? How well does it track? I have a Steelseries Rival and I'm interested in this mouse pad, but i don't want to buy it if the tracking doesn't work too well with an optical mouse.

Should work fine with any type of mouse, but I think it was built for laser mice.

What's the difference between SteelSeries 4HD and 9HD?

I am not sure.  I will say I have purchased the 4HD for my self and one other person.  Absolutely a great mouse pad.  Not that I have noticed any wear after years of use but it is big enough to spin to get it to "wear" all over versus one spot.  I highly recommend it.
