Question 1

I have read that this is a very quiet (practically silent) mouse, is that true?

The clicking of this mouse isn't as loud as some others I've tried (ex, Logitech g100s), but I definitely think it's an exaggeration to say that it's silent.  You can hear the sound when you click like any normal mouse, but it's nowhere near the point of bothersome.  You won't even notice it if you're gaming.  As for movement, I use a hard surface mousepad (Steelseries) and I find that I don't notice any noise as all if I'm not actively listening for it.

All in all, I'd recommend this mouse.  I've gone through about a dozen of different gaming mice ranging from the Logitech MX510 and it's successors to even a few Razor mice.  The Rival is so far my favorite.

Question 2

Does the light stay on even when not in use?

Yes, the LEDs in the logo and under the thumb wheel are on continuously by default.  You have the option of changing colors and turning off either or both LEDs from the configuration program.  I do not believe that there is a sleep function for the lights, they are either on or off continuously.

How does it feel when you click, are the buttons tough or nice and loud?

I'm not sure what you mean by "tough or nice and loud", but I can tell you that the buttons feel solid and satisfying. (As if that's a better description. . . .) The buttons are not hard to press, but neither are they too easy to press, such that you would be accidentally pushing them. Moreover, while they are audible, your roommates or significant other should not find the noise disturbing - i.e., not loud enough to keep someone awake, like a cherry mechanical keyboard. In other words, I find that they have just the right amount of resistance so that the pressure required to push them is just what I like.

Can you turn off the LEDs in the software? As in they turn completely black and emit no light?

It doesnt turn completly black, its sort of a greyish color. But yes, you can kill the light. You can also separate the color and off/on between the logo and the mouse wheel.

hello- was wondering if you could change the LED to bright white?
also is there any chance you could turn off acceleration or adjust the lift off?

You can make the LED whatever color you want. Acceleration is off by default, this sensor has no hardware acceleration unlike the 9500 and 9800 laser mice. Lift off distance, however, is fixed.

Question 6

Are the buttons on this mouse relatively tactile? I currently use a Das keyboard with Cherry MX Red switches, looking for a mouse like this. If this is not the one, what would you suggest?

I've used a large variety of mice and this is one of the most  reliable and consistent mice I have used in a very long time. It is basically an intellimouse 3000 with a better sensor and the clicks are very noticable and tact. I would highly recommend this mouse.
