Sorry about dropping your laptop, but you've got a solid state hard drive, right? It should be okay. No? Oops, my mistake.

Rated for shocks up to 1500 Gs, this 128 GB drive is almost half as tough as an airplane's "black box" (3400 Gs), is light weight and takes little power to run. With one million hours mean time between failures (MTBF), your drive and your data might outlive you. And the SATA interface and standard form factor make retrofitting this drive a breeze. Your computer will never notice the difference, but you probably will. But laptops are not the only computers to gain: any rugged environment, or any place you need an absolutely silent drive will benefit.

So you take your time and make the right decision. And when you do, we'll be right here, ready to help.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Acting without any moving parts, the Super Talent FSD28GC25M solid state drive (SSD) boasts multiple advanced features including zero mechanical noise, faster data rates compared to conventional HDDs, over 1-million-hour life span, ultra-low power consumption and impressive shock, vibration and extreme temperature resistance. No one SHOULD want this one 7/15/2008 5:16:01 AM

Pros: Buyer? No...but used it this past Month. The reviews are basically correct. It's a quick and snappy drive, but not near cost effective. One win, and that's access time. Had it 4 days, wasn't impressed against other's SSD drives.

Cons: This drive never WAS worth $3K. It will never be lower, and cheaper drives are coming...stat. This one does not use the good memory, and tested slower across the board than a 10K RPM spindle drive.

81.1 burst, 76.3 read (max), 76.0 sequential write; looked at on an ICH9R controller. That's just not killer performance on any level.

I have NO idea how that review got through the checks. It's bullocks.

Overall Review: We're reviewing CORE units right now that are 128G, only cost about $400, and set to release soon. I don't want to give it back! SO,we don't HAVE to buy from newegg to state opinions or actual usage.

It's a good drive, but not for Three...Thousand...Dollars. This isn't a forum, it's a review and based on opinion in most cases.

Stop posting without buying. 7/11/2008 1:59:33 PM

Pros: SSDs are the best, they will take over the world rise of the machines style. Also, naysayers will suffer fates.

Thank you to insightful posters.

Cons: Forced to sort through comments on $3000 parts by people who can't afford them and haven't bothered doing any research in between their COD4 and smut sessions before mom gets home.

Overall Review: It's like seeing a an expensive sports car that you will never be able to buy and pretending that you're an expert on how it feels to drive. Then tearing them down to make yourself feel better. Do your homework newbs.

Insane hard drive 5/14/2008 6:55:23 AM

Pros: This hard drive is expensive, but i meen what did you expect when first introducing something like this to the market. Performance wise this thing blows physical hard drives out of the water, whether your willing to pay this much for the preformance i dunno but im considering buying the 32gb SSD as a boot drive for windows and a couple other programs.

Cons: If your an enthusiast, rich person, or both you should think about getting a SSD soon =D, only thing that comes close is the new velociraptor, which in my dream pc id have a 32gb SSD as boot drive and the velociraptor as the main drive but as one of the many unemployed 17 year old students im in no financial position to do that xD

Overall Review: you can buy add ons that allow you to install the drives in a standard case, if you want
and it is pretty awesome for a laptop x_x

Solid State Is the Future 5/7/2008 9:08:45 PM

Pros: No moving parts lends to higher power efficiency and portability.

Cons: Storage capacity is low compared to conventional drives and price is fairly steep for the average consumer.

Overall Review: Although the price is steep, the technology is new. Given the right time to mature these drives will be the future of data storage.

Fabulous Product--the first of many 5/2/2008 7:48:51 PM

Pros: Ok, I don't own this drive either, but it is sized to be a usable configuration in a laptop--I feel 64GB is too small, 128GB is minimal and at some point we will see 512Gb which will really be usable. At that point these 128GB SSD will be affordable, and in high demand. I concur with the reviewer of the 64GB SSD model who used that to update an older laptop. In that case the drive was cheaper and it made an out of date laptop into a sleeper--always fun.

Cons: Crazy High Cost--I'm playing Powerball this week, if I win I'll buy a dozen of these!
Write performance

Overall Review: Lots of people have written about RAID. As one reviewer wisely noted--at this price point these are not meant for RAID, but for notebook use. But consider this: 8 of these in a RAID configuration would be blazing hot and eliminate the one weakness of the drive--write performance. If I hit the lotto and wanted a blazing fast real-time uncompressed video editing machine, this is what I'd use in a RAID Array.

Pros: makes you dream of owning one when the price drops haha

Cons: You gotta be rich to buy this for $3 g's you gotta be kidding me you must have money to throw away why don’t you just send me your money ill spend it feeding the homeless or send stuff to our boys and girls in iraq, Gotta admit great technology maybe for research labs but not for home use even if i had the cash for this i wouldnt buy it till the price droped

Overall Review: Insane

Don't buy 1/21/2008 6:42:24 AM

Pros: Access Time of 0.1ms (the same with all SSD's), lower power consumption, and a reduced chance of failure over a mechanical single drive configuration.

Cons: This drives raw transfer speeds are lower than that of a $50 80GB IDE longitudinal recording drive (typical 7200RPM drive) by a whopping 25%. This is unacceptable at the cost of this drive. You could buy 5 15K SCSI drives and a great 256MB RAID controller and it would be WAY faster, safer, and STILL way cheaper. In addition why spend so much on such a slow drive when the Samsung SSD: 100 MB/sec Write, 120 MB/sec Read is out.

Overall Review: Inherent in the SSD technology is the lost of data recovery methods (currently) there is no magnetic ghost data to recover from with a magnetic microscope in case of electrical drive failure. Hence RAID is still needed. FYI -
