Here's a copy-paste from Supermicro's FAQ page: The X11SAE-M do support Hot plug function, but need to notice below item to achieve the function well. 1. SATA mode must be AHCI mode(RAID mode will not able support) 2. Latest Intel RST Driver is requirement. 3. Do not Hot SWAP w/o HDD tray, every HDD need to install on proper HOT SWAP tray then start unplugging HDD.

Is the height of audio output ports can fit in a standard (H=1.75") 1U rack mount server chassis?

I believe so, as I looked at some generic 1u cases like the Athena power RM-1UWIN512 and it has a spade for what looks like a full size I/O shield. Specs say atx, micro atx, and mini itx so 1u should work. Get a really low profile heat sink though. Board is a tank. No problems.
