Very confused about what 3.5" refers to?   My IDE internal hard drives that I will be converting to external are 4" wide excluding the green plastic screw on side guides.
What is it I need to get if not a 3.5?    Thks   Robert

The 3.5 refers to the size of the physical platter(inside the drive), not the dimensions of the drive itself.  This enclosure works for standard desktop hard drives.  You would need an adapter if you wanted to install a laptop hard drive into it.

I have a Western Digital WD Caviar Blue 160 hard drive.  Will it work in this enclosure?  Model WD1600AAJB - 56R1A0

This enclosure can house either a 3.5in. IDE (like the one you mention) or a  SATA interface drive. I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't work with your drive.

Question 3

can I put a 4TB hard drive into this unit?

A 2TB drive and a 4TB drive will all be the same, standard sizes, and this case will take standard desktop hard drives.  
However, it won't take a hard drive with capacity over 3TB.  If you tried, I don't know if it will simply fail or if it will only allow you to format it to 3TB, but if I were you, i'd just get a case that says it'll take a 4TB drive.

is this compatible with a WD5000AAKS?

It should be. The product comes with adapters for both IDE and SATA (both connectors and power adapters) making it compatible with both form factors. So far I've used six different types of drives of both types and they've all worked.

The Specifications mention that it works with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.  However does it work with windows 8.1 or windows 10?

Just outdated info. It will work with anything that has USB and that can use an external HDD

I have a Connectland 3.5 HDD enclosure and need the connectors for a SATO drive.  Is there a source for just the cables

standalone cables which will work to temporarily connect the SATO drive to a computer by USB?

Yes but it's up to NewEgg to refer one to you, however I bought a USB-3/eSATA hub here that came with one.

Will this support SATA III? Specifically the WD20EZRX

Hi Reed. I only use this case to store data on an older 500 GB IDE drive, but unfortunately, the manual states the SATA connection will only work for SATA I/II. It does not specify support for SATA III.
