Question 1

The Specs say this only works with Sata 1 and 2, has anyone tried it with Sata 3? Seems like the connectors should just be passthroughs, so I don't know why it wouldn't work, but wanted to check.

It's not certain this enclosure will run Sata 3 speeds reliably, but it might. You'd just have to try it on your system to see. It is as you say just wires and connectors, but Sata 3 runs at 6 Gbps, twice the speed of Sata 2. So the signal loss through the wires and connectors will likely be at least 3 db higher. It's no different than trying to run gigabit Ethernet on cat 5 cable even though its just wires and connectors. Because of the faster speeds and greater signal loss it may or may not work reliably. Fortunately Newegg has an excellent return policy so just try it and see.

Question 2

I have one of these, though many years old. Have these newer ones been modified to work with SSDs lately? On mine, the ejection arm's push-peg isn't low enough to eject SSD drives.

The best way to confirm specs is actually by checking the manufacturer's website. With many of our products you can click on the "Warranty & Returns" tab and you will find the Manufacturer's contact info, including the manufacturer's website. These particular units are rather old, supporting SATA I/II standards.  The eject mechanism appears to use a cartridge for holding the drive and should have no issues with SSDs.  For more information, we would suggest reaching out to Syba directly.

Question 3

Do they make on of these for a single 2.5" drive??

Well, how do I say this. . .   I have a customer that gets confused easily and what I'm trying to set up is a "removable" disk for Windows 7 (for when he wants to run that) and another "removable" disk with Ubuntu.  Don't want a "dual boot" setup cause that's a little difficult for him.  Thanks for your prompt reply,

is it compatible with intel 530 240gb ssd?  Do I need to buy anything else to hook it up, cables etc?

The package comes with all the cables you need to install this hot swappable device. You just need to make sure your computer mother board had more sATA connector ports available. Also, this device holds 2.5 inch hard drives. Normally found in laptops. Before buying either product check to make sure the ssd is 2.5 in and you have the sata connections.
