Google SATA III speed - it's 6 6Gb/s

is the card backwards compatible with pci-e 2 slots?

If the slot is a perfect match, most likely yes. The computer I'm using it in only has one x16 graphics slot and three x1 PCIe slots and it works fine. The limiting factor for me is the speed of the external SATA HDD drives.
