Question 1

I was wondering if this item can be used to connect a SATA DVD burner?  I want to install this item on an old PC which still uses IDE connections.  I was going to install this card into a PCI slot and use it to connect a DVD burner drive, is this possible?

I don't see any reason it cannot be used for that.  it's just a standard controller just like would be built into a motherboard.  Even the ones built in actually use a PCI bus so it should be fine.  Make sure when you get this to use the CDROM that comes with it to install the drivers.  I tried letting windows do it and it would NOT work.  You have to use the disk.  If you have trouble ask here again and i'll send you the files you need.

Does this card support port multiplier? I want to use this in linux machine to attach external drive enclosure with 4 x 2TB drives in it.

I do not think this is the right product for your needs.  You have left out some vital information about the speed of the drive enclosure and the drives you are intending to install in the enclosure.  Since this card only takes advantage of the PCI it is not equipt to handle more than 1.5 GB through speed.  It will bog down and create a bottle neck.  You need a different type of card.

Are there Linux drivers included?

I looked this up on line.  This is an old controller and is at a slower speed than what is available now. Supports SATA 1 specification with transfer rate 1.5Gb/s.  However the CD has Linux drivers!  So if that is all you need you would be good to go!
