Will this fit a Nikon D5000?

Hm, this "no" was supposed to be in response to a question about an Olympus lens. No idea how it ended up here. Don't know about your Nikon D5000, sorry.

Does this lens really help to stop vibration?
Does the lens move out by itself when pointed down?
How sharp are the photos at 270 mm.

It stabilizes better than I thought it would. Was able to get some sharp hand-held shots in Carlsbad Caverns that I had little hope of getting. I think it's good for about 5 stops.

If the lens is not locked then yes, it will move out. At least mine does.

It seems to be sharpest with apertures between 8 and 11. If your shot falls in there comfortably you I think the shots are more than adequate for photo printing. Viewing them on a 36" TV, they sure look good too.

Also, if you run a UV filter and add a circular polarizer you'll catch the filter if you're wide all the way. For the money it's a solid lens. YMMV
