How do you know if your laptop has with Serial ATA enabled notebook computer architecture?
I have a 6 year old HP Touchsmart tx2-1025dx laptop. Will this drive work with it? The current hard drive is dead.  Thanks.

Short answer: Yes, based on the model # you provided, it looks like it takes SATA drives

Longer answer: There are a few methods to determine whether you need SATA or IDE in your PC... the best way is to check the hardware specs on the manufacturer website. A quick method is to check what Windows sees the device as in the Device Manager. Hold down Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog, and type: mmc devmgmt.msc

Expand 'Disk Drives' in the list on the left, and look at all the hard drives in that list. Laptops usually only have 1 physical drive, and should say "ATA Device" (aka SATA) or "IDE Device" depending on the connector it has. If you're still not sure, power off the PC, take the hard drive protective cover plate off the bottom of your laptop, remove the hard drive to see what kind of connector it has. IDE and SATA are quite different and very easy to tell the difference, just do an internet search for the connectors to see examples.

Will this drive work in a MacBook Pro to replace the original MK7559gsxf that crashed?

The Toshiba drive will work in a MacBook Pro using OS X or later to replace an original hard drive.

FYI, I use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone a replacement drive after I get stuff set up the way I want (just put the replacement drive in a case and hook up using USB). Then if a hard drive crashes, all I have to do is quickly switch hard drives, and the computer should work with everything already set up. I usually do the cloning overnight as it does take a while with large hard drives like the 1 TB. Also, the replacement drive has to be at least the capacity of the drive being cloned.

I would like to know if this internal hard drive is compatible/fits with Dell Inspiron 1545 that runs on vista with 4 GB ram?

Hi, most laptops us 2.5" drives, which are all standard, the only difference is the thickness. Each laptop manufacturer comes up with its own metal bracket or jacket to connect it to the laptop. It could be just a couple of screws or or a full metal jacket and connector.
This Toshiba is 0.37" thick (approximately equal to 9.4mm), on the thin end of the spectrum.
To find out for sure if it will fit height-wise, or if your laptop has some odd BIOS or motherboard limitation and can recognize a TB drive you can look up the specs at dell.
Go to the Dell website, support, type in the service tag of your laptop and then look for the hard drive in Current configuration or upgrades.
If you need a GB of storage this one is a good bet, a Solid State Drive would give you a lot more speed, but cost a lot more money (best prices these days are around $150 for 256GB).

Is it standard for this product to be REBUILT? I bought one, *thinking* it was new, and the professional I hired to install it said it was NOT new

The drive comes with a three-year warranty, so it wouldn't really matter to me if it's a rebuild or not. By the time the warranty runs out, I doubt there will be mechanical HDs in the marketplace. Mechanical drives are going the way of the buggy whip.

My PH2100U is set up as a slave drive in an old Dell M4500. The primary drive is a zippy 50mm mSATA 120 TB SSD card. At 5400 RPM the Toshiba drive is kind of slow, and 8MB of cache is kind of small, but the capacity + price point + 3-year warranty make this drive a winner. I bought mine for a steal of a deal a couple of days after Black Friday.

Why is this hard drive labeled as "professional installation recommended"?  Is this drive substantially different from other 2.5" SATA 3.0 drives that it would require professional installation in a laptop?

No.  I installed this drive myself with absolutely no difficulty.  Nothing out of the ordinary required.

Hi would this work for my laptop hp pavillion dv4-1114nr?

on Crucial website recommend this hard drive, M500 240GB 2.5-inch Internal SSD

but I'm not sure if its for speed. is all the laptop hard drives are the  same? 2.5" wouldn't fit them all?

Internal SSD is for speed and you pay for it. The Toshiba drive is relatively slow for operations that require caching. However; the drive is reasonable for everyday use.

It will work in any laptop that uses a sata interface to connect. (Sata is 2 l shaped plugs).

Sure, its a hard drive and they will work with any operating system that the computer will support.  You will need to create Recovery Disks for Windows 8 before removing the old drive, as the new drive will be empty of any Operating System.
