Toshiba DOES NOT provide tech support for their internal hard drive, I will return mine, and will buy another 100, and will return all of them, hey don't help me to install it,as I can only use 1.6TB out of the so called 4TB HDD, they are extremely awful, so please let me know how can I use it for more than 3 TB?

Even if you have a supported OS (Windows Vista, Windows 7, and most flavors of Linux) that recognizes GPT, you won't be able to boot to a drive of that size unless you also have a motherboard running UEFI—something that, as of this writing in late 2010, very few do. All current Intel boards support UEFI, but almost no other major manufacturer has yet followed suit. So, under most circumstances, if you don't have a UEFI motherboard (and you probably don't), you'll have to use your extra-large hard drive for storage only. (There are worse things.)

Finally, your system's SATA controller must also be designed to recognize 4KB blocks. This isn't necessarily a big deal: As we discovered when we reviewed Western Digital's new 3TB Caviar Green hard drive, the company is including with all its above-2.19TB drives a PCI Express x1 Host Bus Adapter that lets Windows use a known driver to communicate with the drive.

Does this HD come with a serial ata 3.0 cable?

No it does not.
That is the case for most any HDD purchases. You will have to buy a SATA cable separately and make sure you get one of adequate length for your system configuration.

How is the heat on this unit ? I know some Toshiba models heats up a lot. ?

I also read about the "heat", but it is not an issue.  Using Hardware Monitor Pro v1.23 these are my temps that are idle: This Toshiba 5TB-39C/102.2F, Western Digital Black 3TB 38C/100.4F, Same temps for Seagate 3TB.  Samsung 840 Pro 512GB 27C/80.6F. Samsung SM951 512GB 31C/87.8F.  So what is hot for temps?  I don't think the Toshiba has an heat issue at all.  Same for the Samsung SM951 512GB.  Hope that helps with my hard drive comparison.  As you know, no 2 systems are exactly the same :)

I don't know; however, this is a technical question which should be directed to the marketer/manufacturer. I've been using mine for over a month now and am very pleased with its fast, reliable performance.

Guys, I Used some toshiba hard-drives. I copy paste files like 20 minutes and they start heating up a lot. I see drive doesn't fail it is strong but gets so hot. Is this the same with this hard-drive model Other 7200 4tb models so expensive but I can't buy hard-drive thats heats up a lot for my 5 bay network nas. Is anybody using this model experienced or check the temperature on this hard-drive on using?

Yes, it's hot, much hotter than my other drives. Got a cooler for it, now it runs about 4 degrees celecius hotter than my others instead on like 16 degrees. Was running about 56 now runs about 44 ish. However, no errors. I think these are just designed hot for some reason.

Question 6

Does this drive support SMART status reports? I got one, and it's not giving me any SMART report. Wondering if I've formatted it incorrectly.

This drive does support SMART status, but on my 10.10.3 Macintosh a bug in Disk Utility will create the wrong type of file structure. It will still work, but won't be a GUID structured drive, which caused problems for me when creating a backup clone of the OS.  The workaround was to erase the drive using a Terminal command, not Disk Utility. Google "Logical Volume Group" for more discussion on how to do it.

What is the best "File System" and "Allocation Unit Size" for the best performance?

Hi. I am using the NTSF and I did not partition the drive. I just installed this as a regular C drive and thus far everything is good and the speed and performance is just fine.

Question 8

It says 128mb chache yet the box says 64mb.  I have seen answers online saying it is 128 but they used the old reatail boxing, how can I see if I am being lied too?  I can't see the cache size on any of my diagnostic programs. I am keeping the drive, 64 is enough, I just don't like the deception\confusion.

To all Newegg customers, I just spoke directly with Newegg customer service and had them verify that the description of the TOSHIBA 4 TB hard drive 128 MB cache size is correct and that will be the drive shipped out to customers. The photo is an error made by the internal Newegg advertising department. It took me two separate phone calls to insist on waiting on the phone and getting a definitive answer. Newegg stated to me that the hard drive cache will be 128 MB. They are also working on correcting the online advertising confusion. I hope this assures all concerned.

So do these have the same label errors I have been seeing on the internet. People order PH3400U-1I72 but instead received MD04ACA400? But the box model number and serial matches. Label states it as the 64mb cache version?

Toshiba purchased Hitachi's desktops hard drives a little while ago. The change in serial numbers is directly linked to Hitachi hardware. I've have nothing but great performance and reliability from these drives.
