Question 1

Does it come with and run on batteries?  Reason I ask is one of the reviews said it did not run on batteries.

Hi Gregory,

It does run on a battery, although I'm not sure which type. It takes about 3 1/2 hours to charge and then you watch the movie on it, then back to the charger. It says that you can use it while it is plugged into your car charger, but it does not say anything about using it while it's plugged into a wall socket, so we decided against it. When it arrives, it comes with instructions, but then it says to look for the entire manual online and it just gives you the basics to setting it up. We're happy with it and it was a good price. The batteries didn't seem to hold a charge overnight very well, however... Hope this helps.

is this dvd-r /rw ?

This is a CD/DVD player not a recorder.You can play any type of cd/dvd, including latest dual layer dvd. I just  watched  GRAVITY movie on it. Only problem is it makes lots of clicking noise--tracking type.
