Toshiba's contribution to this trend is this inexpensive VCR/DVD combination. The four head recorder plays and records standard VHS tapes and records in SP/SLP speeds with Hi-Fi Stereo sound. Because of the prevalence of set-top tuners these days, it has no internal tuner of its own. The single disk DVD player reads a variety of DVD and CD formats including VCD (video CD) and displays JPEG images as well.
Looking for an inexpensive addition to that modular entertainment center you're building? Perhaps you should consider this unit from Toshiba. I'll just stand over here and wait patiently while you give it some thought.

Pros: Relatively inexpensive. Good VCR picture when it works.
Cons: I bought two units from Newegg. Both VCR Tape transports failed within 30 days, Newegg replaced both and covered shipping both ways. One of the replacement units failed within the manufacturer's warranty period. The other has been rarely used so its reliability is unknown.
Overall Review: These are the only Toshiba items that I have purchased. Based on this experience, I would not recommend them to anyone.
Pros: easy to use. works well. We are happy with it. Haven't measured it to know dimensions but it is smaller than a vcr and smaller than I thought it would be.
Pros: Works as advertised, very good quality.
I connected it to hauppauge HPVR 2255 and converted 6 old family videos to digital.
Very high quality. It is the only good VRC remaining on market.
Cons: Non so far
I didn't use the DVD built in or used it to convert videos.
I did it my way.
