Question 1

If I currently have no 802.11ad/60GHz devices will the third band be useless until then or can regular AC devices still connect to the 3rd band?

What makes a router Dual or Tri band is the broadcast of 2 or 3 differing RF network signals. On this particular router the three bands are 2.4Ghz , 5Ghz, and 60Ghz. As such each band only broadcasts at its specific Hertz level. The 3rd band can only broadcast in 60Ghz which is rated for 802.11AD compliant devices. Do note however that because the AD/60Ghz band isn't being used, the 1.4Ghz dual core has less overall core usage which allows for more throughput in the 2.4 and 5.0 bands this router is still an excellent router even when only using the 2.4 and 5.0 bands.

What wifi adapters will connect to this router at 60GHz?

No. You will need a supported AD WiFi card for it to work. I use a Acer Travelmate P6 and it works fine as I do get up to 4.2ghz.  Also remember to use the 60ghz you also need to be very close to router. If you are looking for distance, 60ghz is not it. Use the 5ghz.

I have been given advice to use a business router with exceptional security for my home.  This unit does not appear to have similar security features or at least security is not played up in the specifications...what security features does this router offer that would make it usable other than just WPA2 encryption?  Does it have  anti-virus, anti-spam, Web filtering, and intrusion prevention (IPS)?

Here is a far more accurate response.

The Talon supports these security features. If you visit the vendor website and look for "simulators" you can check over all aspects of the router interface to determine if it has _exactly_ what your spec calls for.

An SPI Firewall as defined by wikipedia is available:
"The firewall is configured to distinguish legitimate packets for different types of connections. Only packets matching a known active connection are allowed to pass the firewall. Stateful packet inspection (SPI), also referred to as dynamic packet filtering, is a security feature often included in business networks."

DoS Protection
ICMP-FlOOD Attack Filtering
UDP-Flood and TCP SYN-FLOOD filtering

and the always expected denial of pings from a wan address.

While not a true business class router, I'd say if you don't use PnP and don't open a nbucnh of ports on this router for various application purposes ( like a bit torrent for example) you'll find this security average. A business class router with the absolute most advanced features is going to cost thousands..and you need to be an IT expert to properly configure them.

The only fault I find in security is the logging is inadequate

How much memory is on the device? In addition, how many devices can be joined via wireless before it affects the throughput of the the unit?

512 MB, did not not notice any slowdown....and i have a minecraft server and a computer on a wired connection and like 10 devices on wireless

If they actually hit that speed lol, but yes it is a gigabit router so has 10/100/1000 capability

Does this router have the ability to parental control each device connected separately?

Technically yes, but for some reason I cannot get it to work. I did set up one of the devices to be connected on the certain time of the day only, but the device have an access 24/7 for some reason. Restriction doesn't work.

Question 7

Would I be able to hook this up to the ONT box in my house like my current existing router setup is? I read a google review that sounded like this unit would not have that capability.

I would suggest talking to your ISP. With Verizon FIOS it was possible to connect via Ethernet from the ONT if you have that available. Some areas you would not have Ethernet available via the ONT and would need some kind of ONT Terminal/Modem. Or you can first purchase a MODEM that will work with an ONT usually has a MOCA / COAX input, then connect this router.

I have a 2 story 3800 sq foot house with 4 kids.  At any given time i will have a gamer on Xbox 1, PS4, Netflix and Robolox as well as my wife on facebook and myself surfing.  Granted we have the bandwidth speed, will this router allow for all parties to stay online with good connectivity simultaneously and how do/it perform this?

I live in an rural area. All I can revive for any type of internet is satellite . I know it is bad, i have to deal with it everyday. I am set on a data limit pretty much and when i reach my limit my speeds go from 20mbps all the way down to 0.01mbps.  I was just wondering would this help improve my speeds at all when i hit my data limit?

My provider said its supposed to go to 1-2mbps but it has not at all since i have had their service. I am stuck with them too because its the only service in my area.

Andrew, no unfortunately this (or any) router will not improve your situation. The speeds that are advertised for this device will affect the network inside your home only - and even that is limited by the capabilities the client devices you're using. The speed at which you can browse the Internet will still be limited by the speed of the service from your Internet provider (throttled or otherwise), despite the fact that this router can theoretically handle much higher speeds.
