HI GOOD DAT I JUST WANTED TO KNOW IF THIS WOULD WORK WITH MY ROUTER  WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR IS SOMETHING TO GETS MORE PORTS MY ROUTER HAS 3 BUT IT IS FULL AND I NEED SOME MORE ?

Hi, I actually replaced a Trendnet Router the died after 5 or 6 years. Actually I don't see why it wouldn't work as you described. 
Since it is a switch and not a router I think you can chain these on each other.
This has worked very well for me since I got it. It runs about 8 or so hours a day with no hic-cup. 
Usually I run my Logitech 
Reveu, Obi Hai phone internet phone device off of it, computer, and sometimes my laptop. Check out the ObiHai 100 on new egg. I use it with Google voice and have not paid a phone bill in nearly 2 years!

I though NE had some 8 port switches that were not that much more.

Hello,

I just bought one of these, and connected my Router cable into port 1, and my Smart TV and PS4 into the other two ports available but they do not connect to the internet. Am I doing something wrong; or is it that I need to connect a wireless network to use it?

I believe the port for incoming signal from your router should be in port 5, but if that doesn't work, I'm not sure what to tell you. I was able to plug and play and even put my printer on one of the ports and now every device connected to the router wired or wireless has access to the printer as well.

Will this switch allow me to connect my dish receiver and my Denon receiver and operate both at the same time?

Not sure of the specifics, but I would think as a switch and not as router it allows any device to connect with any other to the Internet Mine is full and I watch Google TV, One or two browsers, and can connect to the internet with Outlook and WebMail bowser functionality.. all concurrently with NO problems. Mine runs actively about 18 or more hours a day. Hope this helped!

My network setup is an Apple router (my parents are apple snobs), where many devices are connected with a wireless connection, while my desktop PC is connected with a wired connection. I've been having packet loss problems recently and I believed was because of having so many devices connected; 4 or 5 computers, 4 or 5 phones and an iPod touch or two. When I plug directly into my modem I see reduced problems. I bought this so I could plug my PC directly into the modem while having the router go into the modem at the same time, but now that I have it, when I plug in my modem, the router, and my PC, either the router's connection will work or my PC's wired connection will work, whichever is plugged in first is the only one that works. Am I doing something wrong, or is this purpose outside the scope of what this device can do? Sorry for the long question, thank you.

This switch did`nt work for me either.I have two computers and wanted to use this switch to have my 100mbs ethernet on both computers at the same time.
I know i set it up right,just plug in the power supply and main ethernet cable to switch and then connect the two separate ethernet cables to switch and my 2 pc`s.
It only works for 1 of my computers.It won`t work on both pc`s at the same time.Not worth sending back since it costs more to ship it back than i paid for it.

What is the difference between 5 port 10/100 and a 5 port Gigabit?

10/100 supports to up 100Mbps, a gigabit will support 10/10/1000 which means it will support up to a 1gbps (1000Mb).

So a 5 port gigabit will transfer files through your internal network faster. Where as the 10/100 will cap the speed off at 100Mbps.

I personally don't transfer files a lot on my internal network, and my internet speed is only 5mbps, so I had no need for a 5 port gigabit, that's why I opted for the 10/100.

And the 5 port just means you can have up to 5 Ethernet cables connected to it, so you can connect 4 devices to it with 1 port leading out to your network.

Can I use this to access the internet without having a router? If so, how fast?

No, because a switch merely provides multiple Ethernet ports from a single input. It's effectively a Y-connector, but you can't truly wire multiple Ethernet cables together.

A router shares a single network connection among several ports, managing all the DATA that flows. A switch doesn't look at the data.

Could you please tell me the actual voltage these switch operate on (ie 5vdc 9vdc 12vdc) ?

The power supply shows it to be 120 volt .06 Amp~~~~

Question 8

Does this switch have slots on the bottom for wall mounting? You usually put two screws or nails in the wall, and let them stick out a little bit, and the put the head of the nail/screw in the slot of the bottom of the switch and slide it down/over.   The pictures don't show the bottom, and I'm wondering if someone could take a look at the bottom of theirs and let me know.

There are no holes for mounting on the bottom, it is completely flat. It is so flat, however, that putting an adhesive pad or rubber cement or something of the like would work excellently

Question 9

Someone told me that this doesn't NEED the power adapter to work. I understand that to work best, using everything that comes in the box is recommended, but does this switch absolutely 100% NEED the power adapter to work at all? I am looking to use something like this to create a temporary connection point where power outlets is not an option.

I have not tried it earlier, but after your question I experimented it. It works if only one device needs to be connected. But if there are more than one devices it needs to be connected to power source as it does not switch devices without power. Hope that helps.
