Will this unit work on overseas voltage?

The unit is rated for 120/240 VAC 50/60 Hz operation so I presume it would work overseas. My unit came with a USA power cord but it uses the standard IEC60320 C14 power receptacle; a cord for your locale should plug right in.

Question 2

Is this switch rack-mountable and if so, how many "U"s does it use? (2?)

Yes the switch comes with brackets that will allow for mounting in a rack.  The switch is a 1U in height.

Can this be mounted on a wall?

It comes with brackets for rack mounting that look like if turned could be used to mount on a wall. However, it would be mounted flush with a wall and not sitting out as if on a shelf.

Judging from the heat dispersing mesh points it looks to be best mounted with the ports facing down and the power cord facing upward.

Bottom line imo, is yes it can be mounted to a wall but depending on how other things are placed within your network topology it may make placement an issue.

Question 4

Does this unit have a fan?  There seems to be contradictory information on this, so I am seeking a definitive answer.

Not sure if this fan has a fan or not.  I am using every port on this 16 port switch (of which at least ten ports in use at a time on a GB home network) in an in-wall enclosure and this thing just barely gets warm.  I have not opened the switch enclosure to see if there is fan that kicks on when the temperatures get too hot but as far as I know, this thing is super quiet and dissipates heat via conduction with heat sinks and convection through sides and back vent ports.  I hope I answered your question.

Question 5

G-King:  I need to extend (4) cat6 data cables 390 ft. from the data acquisition units.  If I install the TL-SG1016D at the mid-point (190 ft.) will this allow quality data flow?

Recommended CAT5 Ethernet cable length between connections is >100 meters, or about 329 feet. The switch will serve to retransmit signals, reliably extending the network to satisfy your needs. There should be no data loss at all. Speeds will suffer slightly but it should be negligible.

Can this switch be mounted inside a Leviton Structured Wiring Panel?

Im not 100% certain however It does come with mounting brackets.  I actually have it inside my leviton structured wiring however I have nottried using the mounting brackets and plastic push retainers that come with the leviton.  I believe it should work though.

Anybody know the amount of buffer memory for this unit? Not listed in specs (?)
