Must use a cheaper timer ?

Comments: Used 6 of them around the house, happy so far, very clear in day time. Better performance if connected through Ethernet. Also to counter the system freezes, I purchased a cheap 24 hour timer for 3 dollars, and set it to power off for 30min everyday, that way, if your camera stop working during the day/night it will reset itself during the next power cycle

A cheap, functional IP Camera

Pros: Cheap, has LAN and Wireless, the software is good enough to suit my needs (just used the IE applet version).

There is an android app that is a nice bonus if you want to use a smartphone to monitor your camera - "SecurView Mobile" available for free in the android market.

Does support modern wifi encryption.

I am able to stream to ftp, over the internet and send e-mail alerts with no further investment.

Cons: No secure smtp (so you can't send through a gmail account, for example). This is not the easiest camera to set up, and took some troubleshooting. Image quality is very poor, but not much worse than expected.

Overall Review: I just followed the instructions on dyndns.org to get the camera working on the internet without a fixed IP.

You can send e-mails to gmail, however they will go into your spam folder at first, so be sure to add the camera e-mail address to your contacts list!

I had no problem using the reset button to reset the camera (unlike another reviewer).

Good buy

Pros: Visually it looks good. External detachable antenna if you need to upgrade it. Good range, I have it running through several walls and a garage and no lag. A good deal for the price.

Cons: No night vision or wireless N, but I knew this before I bought it.

Overall Review: Haven't seen any issues the other people are having. Make sure you keep the firmware up to date.

No complaints for $40.

Pros: $40, does what you paid for.
Wireless works, no drops/reboots, stable. Remote access via TRENDnet web app works, but slow (given you’ll be using an external app anyway).

Cons: Didn’t even bother on bundled software, using webcamXP with motion detecting – set up to sends email alerts, records video locally and upload stills to my smartphone. Continuing experimenting/testing on what software/cam can do.

Overall Review: Resolution $40 worth, more than adequate for intended good-light/static-viewing purposes. Signed up for a Price-Alert, $40 I’ll take 2 more.

Waste of Time

Pros: Price was great, $40 for wireless/wired camera

Cons: Image quality was poor, but about what I expected
Wireless was weak. Worked okay when I was setting it up and testing locations of where I had planned on putting it. Mounted the camera and it would never connect. Other devices detected a wireless signal from same spot.
During testing, the video feed would freeze. After about a minute, it would resume. This was constantly happening about every 5-10 minutes.

Overall Review: After reading some of the bad reviews, I decided to take my chances since the camera was on sale. I bought it to keep watch over my house during construction. Since I was leaving on a trip the next day, I gave in and decided to just run an ethernet cable to the camera. Before I began I heard a pop and smelled something coming from the camera. It never worked again.

This Is How I Got Mine To Work

Pros: Decent camera when you catch it on sale for $60 or less. 640x480 resolution with 30 fps. Works with Zoneminder. It's been on 24 hrs for almost 3 weeks and has not crashed under 64-bit WEP (although 64-bit WEP is not the best security, my old Netgear WGT624 does not handle 128-bit WEP or WPA well).

Cons: Poor picture quality with any lighting dimmer than bright sunlight. Could not switch to lower resolutions with Zoneminder. Default IP address is 192.168.10.30. If the camera's hardware or software was able to detect or let me enter my home router's default gateway IP address and automatically change it on the camera, I wouldn't need to do the 10 steps in the Other Thoughts section. Did not use provided setup software due to previous bad experience with the software on the wired model.

Overall Review: Both wired and wireless models of this camera are working without a hitch under my current setup. This is how I did it. 1) Dug out my old Linksys BEFSR41 router. Reset it to the factory default settings. 2) Connected my laptop to the router with cat-5 cable. 3) Logged in to router using IE and router's default IP address http://192.168.1.1 (other routers have different default IP addresses). 4) Changed router IP address to 192.168.10.1 5) Closed IE, right clicked on Local Area Connection icon on Windows XP taskbar, and clicked Repair. 6) Connected camera to router with cat-5 cable. 7) Logged in to camera using IE and http://192.168.10.30 8) Changed camera IP address to a static IP of 192.168.0.250 and default gateway to 192.168.0.1 (Netgear's default router IP address). 9) Unplugged camera's cat-5 cable and moved camera to another room about 30 ft away. 10) Using computer connected to my home network under the Netgear router, I accessed the camera with IE and http://192.168.0.250

Works sometimes

Pros: I was able to setup a ProFTPD server and have the camera upload video to it while wired. Did not require any software besides what was built-in to the camera to do so. Picture quality is ok for the price.

Cons: Wireless was very unreliable and was unable to stay connected to my wireless access point. I tried using a slower WRT54G instead of my D-Link DIR-825, tried WEP/WPA/WPA2 and both AES/TKIP. Nothing worked. I eventually used the wired port, which worked much better, but I had bought the camera to make use of its wireless aspect.

Overall Review: Good if you want a camera that can upload to an ftp server, but if you're looking for a camera that works over wi-fi you may want to consider a different TRENDNet model. I work as a hardware technician and operate my own linux based server, so I have a fair understanding of troubleshooting problems. This one stumped me.
