what is the power supply for this device?

It's a small external thin power brick like those that are used with Cellphones. The brick goes off the 'side' of the outlet, not up or down, so it doesn't block the 2nd outlet on a standard wall outlet.

It connects to the back of the camera with a barrel plug connector. I don't remember the exact wattage, but it uses less power than my Netbook does (less than 20 watts).

Is it safe to install camera outside?

The camera isn't designed to be exposed directly to outdoor weather. The instruction book said that it would work ok if under a sufficient overhang like a porch, as long as it was completely protected from water. I would personally only use it on an enclosed outside porch. Also if used outside it will have to be cleaned often if the Infared LED's are on for low light mode as spiders and other bugs can see the infared light and will build spider webs around the camera.

Question 3

If for some reason this camera would require re-initialization, could this procedure be accomplished off site? I ask because I will be in a different country and have the need to power down camera for extended periods of time, raising concerns regarding the camera losing the wireless router settings etc. Thank you.

The camera should not lose your network settings even if it is powered down for an extended period of time. Ling (above) may have a defective unit, or perhaps their ISP's external DHCP-IP address of their network was changed after their power loss at home, which caused the connection loss to their camera.

If you use the provided TrendNet cloud URL with your camera, it should be connected to the web at all times. However, if you use strictly your external network IP address, and it gets reset/changed at any point in time, you will lose connectivity to the camera. Ask your ISP about getting a static IP address (usually costs money), or rely only on the TrendNet Cloud address that is provided with your camera.

Question 4

Unit shows that it comes with an Ethernet cable? Is that an Ethernet plug on the rear of the unit? I don't want to sound stupid, but this doesn't have to connect directly to my router, does it?  I have a D-Link SmartPlug & it just picks up the wireless signal from my router...is this similar in that regard?  Thank you.

Hi there,

1. Yes it comes with the short Ethernet cable and the unit has an RJ45 port in the back
2. The unit can connect both ways either with direct Ethernet connection to your router or wirelessly

I have mine setup to connect wirelessly to my existing WiFI network. It finds your WiFI network can connects to it as easily as your smartphone and tables in my opinion.

Note: WiFi connection seems to work better than the cable connection somehow tho. Plus, the software to setup the camera for monitoring is quite difficult to use.

When the audio is enable, the audio have this buzzing noise. How do I fix this problem?
