Is the battery replaceable ?

I would assume so, though I haven't had mine long enough for the battery to wear out. Contact the manufacturer with the question.

Question 2

Does this one work well with a portable emergency generator?  The one I have now does not play well with my generator.

The UPS' manual states the following regarding operation with a generator:

"If the UPS receives power from a motor-powered AC generator, the generator must provide clean, filtered, computer-grade output."

It also provides this warning:

"Do not connect surge suppressors or extension cords to the output of your UPS.  This might damage the UPS and will void the surge suppressor and UPS warranties."

I have a timer/power strip connected to mine, but it is NOT on the battery backup side of the outlets.

I suggest you contact your generator's manufacturer regarding what filtration, or voltage conditioning it provides for the output power.

Does this unit provide a pure sine wave output that's needed for PFC power supplies?

I do not know the actual answer to this question.  However, I assume that it does based on the obviously improved picture quality of I get on my LG HD TV.  The TV, a Amazon Fire TV Box, a android kodi box and my Comcast box share it.

Is it possible to disable the beeping upon power loss?

Yes it is. In the setting menu the alarm can be muted.

Is the software compatible with Windows 98?

There is an LED display on the device itself that provides information regarding battery condition, input power, output power, device load, battery run time, and so forth.  I use mine with Linux machines and have never needed software to "read" the UPS.
