| Feature | Extends a Network Connection up to 2 km over SC Multimode Fiber Optic Cable This network media converter converts a copper Ethernet signal to a multimode fiber optic signal and extends it to a second network device up to two kilometers (1.2 miles) away. Because copper Cat5e/6 cables are limited to only 100 meters, it is more effective to couple the N784-H01-SCMM with multimode fiber cable to reach hubs, switches and other 10/100Base-TX/FX network devices located farther away. Auto-negotiation and automatic MDI/MDI-X configuration seamlessly connect devices without crossover cabling. Monitor Your Installation with Link Fault Signaling and Loop Back Functions Determine the health of your network connection via the Link Fault Signaling (LFS) and Loop Back functions. The LFS LED indicates when a copper or fiber cable has been severed or another cause of disruption in service has occurred. The Local Loop Back (LLB) and Remote Loop Back (RLB) functions ensure copper and fiber cables have been correctly installed. Use the DIP switches to control each function or turn them on or off. LEDs Indicate Installation Performance and Diagnostic Functions Easy-to-read LEDs on the side of the unit indicate essential status information, including network speed and connection, LFS diagnostics and unit power. Protective Metal Housing Built to Withstand a Variety of Hazards The hardened aluminum case is designed to operate in extreme temperatures ranging from -10 to 60 degrees Celsius (14 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit). It is protected from electrostatic discharge (ESD), radio frequency interference (RFI) and power surges. Hardware is included for wall or DIN mounting. Works in Tandem with Tripp Lite's N785-CH12 Chassis House and power up to 12 Tripp Lite media converters, including the N784-H01-SCMM, using the N785-CH12 12-port chassis (sold separately) to create an organized installation. The Tripp Lite N784-H01-SCMM is a hardened 10/100 Mbps copper-to-multimode-fiber media converter for network installers extending Ethernet connections up to 2 km over duplex SC fiber, with auto-negotiation and Link Fault Signaling for connection monitoring.
Recommended For
- Network installers extending a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet link beyond copper’s typical 100-meter reach to a switch, hub, or other network device over SC multimode fiber, up to 2 km.
- Industrial or remote-site installers who need a wall- or DIN-rail-mounted converter rated for operation from -10°C to 60°C.
- Technicians commissioning or troubleshooting a fiber link who want link-fault signaling, status LEDs, and local or remote loopback tests.
- Facilities or network teams buying equipment for eligible federal procurement who need a TAA-compliant converter for a 10/100 Mbps SC multimode connection.
Real-World Use Scenarios
- Connect a 10/100 Ethernet device in a remote building or cabinet to the main network over existing SC multimode fiber. With a compatible fiber connection at the other end, it can extend the link up to 2 km without relying on a long copper run.
- Reuse an installed multimode fiber run to connect a legacy 10/100 switch or network device that lacks a fiber port. The converter provides a copper RJ45 handoff, while the link remains limited to the device’s supported 10/100 Mbps speeds.
- Carry network traffic to a remote 10/100 camera or access-control device over fiber when it is too far from the network closet for a copper Ethernet run. The endpoint and converter need local power: this model does not provide Power over Ethernet.
- Install a 10/100 network connection near industrial equipment in a cabinet or other location within the unit’s rated operating-temperature range. Its included DIN-rail hardware supports cabinet mounting; the rating does not mean the converter is weatherproof.
- Check a new or faulty copper-to-fiber installation by using the converter’s local and remote loopback tests and link-fault indicator. These help an installer identify whether the copper segment, fiber segment, or link itself needs attention.
