Question 1

Does this product come with the POE injector?  The description of the product is not very clear.

If you buy the uap-ac-lite as a single pack then yes it comes with a POE injector.  If you buy as a multipack then no.  The lite version does not use standard POE spec so if you don't have their POE injector then you have to plug into a Unifi switch, standard POE switches won't work.

Question 2

Will this only work with an Unifi Controller? or can i just plug this into an existing xfinity cisco router and set it up like that?

To be clear, you need Unifi "something" to configure these devices.  You can download an app for IOS or Android to configure and manage these units without installing a full blown Unifi Controller.  Great for a one or two APs, but it does not support a guest network.  For advanced functionality you probably want the free Unifi Controller software for a PC or a Cloud Key device which hosts the Unifi Controller software.  The advantage of the Cloud Key is that it does not require the PC to be powered on to see or manage your network and is more accessible from other network PCs.

It's not meant for outdoor use, but if your climate isn't particularly harsh it would probably be ok if not directly exposed to weather.  The UAP-AC-PRO is rated for outdoor use.

Question 4

Can I use this AP with my Netgear R6400 router, does it need to hookup on Ethernet all the time ? if it is ok, can someone explain how to set up it, I do not know much on network like your guys

These are great access points with lots of features, and Ubiquity updates the controller software/firmware frequently with fixes and features.

Yes you can use it with your Netgear R6400 router or just about any other router.

Of course it needs to be connected to Ethernet all the time in order to provide LAN/Internet access to wireless clients.

The controller software runs on any old PC on your network (check the specs, but I believe it runs on Windows, Mac and Linux). The controller software does not need to be running all the time unless you are using advanced features like the guest portal, etc.

However if you are just looking for a relatively simple WIFI access point without the AC Lite's features you may be better served by a Netgear or other standalone access point.

Question 5

If I get 2 APs, will they work in mesh mode, one plugged in to the Unifi POE switch on my first floor, and the other by its lonesome on the second floor in mesh mode? Or will I need to run some Cat6e through my attic and down to the switch? I already have a Cloud Key Gen2, Security Gateway, and 8 port POE Unifi switch and am currently running a different set of Mesh APs for Wifi, but would like to move to all Unifi.

These are technically non-mesh APs, but starting with firmware v.3.9.1 you can configure your AC Lite to act as a wireless uplink (pseudo mesh) access point. This isn't true mesh; it's really more of a wireless extender. Because the AP is using its primary bands as uplinks to another access point, your overall throughput will drop on both points. If you have the ability to run cat 5e or cat 6 to the AP, you're much better off doing so. I've also noticed that the AC lites seem to struggle when you've got a lot of data hungry devices connected (think Roku, laptop, and tablet all streaming media or Zoom calls or some combination thereof...). If you're setting up the upstairs device as an extender (e.g. wireless uplink/mesh point) you're likely to see more issues than just hard wiring it in.

Is this the new model that supports the 802.3af POE standard?

The one I received on March 21, 2018 has a blue sticker on the front that reads "Now Supports 24V & 802.3af/A", so I would assume all shipments would be the newer model now if "Sold and Shipped by Newegg", not sure about other sellers.

can you use band steering to push clients between access points? My phone often will try to stay on one of my 2 wifi connections even when it can't surf and there is another AP like 10 ft away.

No, this functionality (which Ubiquiti calls zero handoff roaming) is not currently available on their AC models. It is available on non-AC models but there is no published plan to make it available on UniFi AC APs. Best AP selection is left to the client.

Note, UniFi has another feature called band steering which is used to push clients to 5GHz or balance them between 2.4Ghz and 5GHz on the same access point. It does not push clients between APs.

I see the product listed as: UAP-AC-LITE US/CA.
I am assuming the 'US/CA' means it's for sale in US and/or Canada and complies with certain laws?
Can anyone confirm or clarify? Thanks!

As far as I understand you are correct. They’re specific set of frequencies that can be used legally in varied countries for WiFi.

Question 9

Older units did not support 803.3af POE.  Does the current (2020) stock support this?

I ran into this same problem with my older AC-LITE. This support link mentions the board revision you need. " I can't include a link to UBNT support, but search for the article "115000263008-UniFi-Supported-PoE-Protocols For AC-LITE" It lists 33 and later as supporting non-passive POE. Unfortunately, I cannot find the article that list when the board revisions went into production. I have board revision 21 and my AC-LITE is several years old if that helps at all.
